Spanish term or phrase: Abandono de menores
Hi everyone,

I'm translating a decree of abandonment, among other documents relating to an international adoption.

All throughout the text they talk about "abandono fisico y moral", "los menores han sido declarados en estado de abandono", "los menores venian siendo objeto de abuso fisico y psicologico por parte de sus padres"...

Whereas in some cases I've translated it as "abandonment" or "abandoned" (e.g. The children were declared abandoned), in some others I've translated it as "neglect", as it seems to be more commonly used, at least in the UK. For instance:

"Se cita a XXX a efectos de que tenga conocimiento del proceso de investigación tutelar sobre ABANDONO MATERIAL Y PELIGRO MORAL"

Here I've translated it as "Physical and emotional neglect"

However, I wanted to make sure these terms are synonyms and there's no significant difference in meaning.

Thanks in advance,
