I am a fine artist based in Nottingham in The UK and have just completed the 1st year of my Phd at Loughborough University School of the Arts entitled 'Speaking though the voice of another' my research question is:

How can art practice be used to provoke new ways of thinking about the transformations and transitions that happen 'in' translation?

I would love to get in contact with anyone who is interested in collaborating an experimenting with 'translation', or even anyone who is willing to enter into a dialogue, ask questions and share their expereinces.

I am in the process of narrowing down the field, establishing and defining what I mean by translation - and articulating the reciprocal relationship I see between translation and art practice, so that I can outline my contribution to knowledge. I am interested in the dialogic nature of translation and its relationship with interpretation. I am focusing upon Oral translation and using the voice as my main medium, I hope that my research/artwork will make visible much of what is taken for granted, invisible to those who encounter it daily.

BACKGROUND

PROJECTS
I have spent my 1st year familarising myself with the phenomena and grounding myself in theoretical and philosphical debate that surrounds it, I am now entering a phase of practical, experimentation and immersion.

PLANS
I will be presenting projects/works at a number of translation conferences this semester including a week long residency at the University of Tartu, Estonia in order to present work at the 'Culture in Mediation' conference in November.
