Spanish to English: LOS ENDOCANNABINOIDES COMO UNA FUTURA HERRAMIENTA PARA EL TRATAMIENTO DE CÁNCER General field: Medical Detailed field: Medical (general)
Translation - English SUMMARY
The antineoplastic drug treatment focuses on the inhibition of cell proliferation, those cells which have high mitotic index. However, these drugs are not able to differentiate between healthy cells and the sick. This feature is responsible for a large number of adverse effects, including the alopecia, disorders of the gastrointestinal system, bone marrow depression, changes in behavior and one carcinogenic potential, among others. There are many research groups working in the search for new molecules with potential antineoplastic activity. The composite leaders include tetrahydrocannabinol and endocannabinoids, as anandamide. Recent studies suggest that these compounds offer a high selectivity on diseased cells; this can be considered as a possibility for low risk of toxicity. Finally, all antineoplastic treatments such as of any pathology, should take into account biological rhythms in order to obtain the best therapeutic effects and one less adverse reaction profile. The objective of this work is to understand the mechanisms of action of cannabinoids, the endocannabinoids in cancer and the benefits of future antineoplastic therapy based on the action of these compounds on the growth of cancer cells.

Source text - Spanish Mi esposa y yo vivimos separados.
Translation - English My wife and I don’t live together. I mean we are husband and wife, but she believes living together kills passion, so we would prefer to keep living each in our own home. I live alone, and she lives with her two children. Although they aren’t mine, rather the fruit of her womb from her first marriage to an architect. One day, using the excuse that I’m getting on a bit and once fainted in a restaurant, she asked me for the keys to my house.
“What if you are alone and you take a bad turn and I can’t get into your house to save you, and maybe bring you to the hospital?”
“Or perhaps to the nursing home …you’re right,” I told her. And I gave her a spare set of keys. “But in return you have to give me yours. What if one day your children are beating you up and I can’t get in to save you?”
She agreed, reluctantly.
She has never used the keys to get into my house, as far as I’m aware, nor have I used her keys to get into her house when she is not there. It’s just that the other day I got it into my head that something strange was happening there. The kids had left with the architect for the whole week and my wife was acting strange around me. Instead of coming to visit me or inviting me to have dinner, she made up ridiculous excuses not to see me Tuesday or Wednesday. Puzzling thoughts kept growing in my head until she phoned me on Thursday evening. She told me that she was going to the cinema with Lina, her best friend. My hunch grew. I ran to her house, which is about ten blocks away from mine; the doorman knows me and let me in although he informed, “the lady is not in.” I went up the eight floors in the lift. Everything was quiet, in its place. Although she doesn’t buy flowers, there was a bouquet of roses in the vase in the living room. The chaos of the children’s toys had been tidied in the twin bedroom. I went to my wife’s room. The bed was made; not a trace, not a whiff of suspicion. However beside the bed there was a suitcase. The Avianca label, still on the handle, said Mr.Ferro.
French to English: Le sacrifice des platanes du canal du Midi General field: Other Detailed field: Journalism
Translation - English Sacrificing the Plane Trees of the Canal du Midi
Like protective shadows of a century old heritage, the 42,000 plane trees that line the 239 or so kilometres of the Canal du Midi will soon be destroyed. Since 2006, an incurable disease has been threatening their survival. The archway of trees is now being targeted for logging and replantation plans by government bodies in a bid to save their identity and heritage, this decision was made by UNESCO in 1996.
The structure, which is the symbolic work of Pierre Paul de Riquet, was completed during Louis XIV’s rule between 1666 and 1681. Up until now, these trees have framed the navigable waterway which is popular among tourists and connects la Garonne to the Mediterranean Sea. Initially it was built to expand wheat trade and this watercourse is one of the oldest canals in Europe still in use. After it was originally named Canal Royal in Languedoc, it was renamed Canal du Midi by revolutionaries in 1789. People from this period consider it the most remarkable feat of engineering of the 17th Century.
With such historical and ancestral dimension, a majestic edifice which still grabs the attention of new generations, the abolition of this natural architecture provokes feelings of anxiety and concern. This is true for environmentalists and particularly for local representatives, who fear consequences for tourism and a drop in status for UNESCO, even though it may seem to be ‘not on the agenda’ according to the department of Ecology. The president, who was questioned about the subject on Tuesday at Agde, in the department of Herault, assured that the government will join forces with the local electives to save the Canal du Midi, a remarkable heritage. ‘This is a great tragedy and I’m going to ask Frédéric Lefebvre and Nathalie Kosciusko-Morizet to support you’ promised Sarkozy to Jullian, vice president of the region of Langue-doc Rousillan.
