Source text - Spanish En botánica, el fruto es el órgano procedente de la flor, o de partes de ella, que contiene a las semillas hasta que estas maduran y luego contribuye a diseminarlas.1 Desde un punto de vista ontogénico, el fruto es el ovario desarrollado y maduro de las plantas con flor. La pared del ovario se engrosa al transformarse en la pared del fruto y se denomina pericarpio, cuya función es proteger a las semillas. Con frecuencia participan también en la formación del fruto otras partes de la flor además del ovario, como por ejemplo el cáliz o el receptáculo.
El fruto es otra de las adaptaciones, conjuntamente con las flores, que ha contribuido al éxito evolutivo de las angiospermas. Así como las flores atraen insectos para que transporten polen, también muchos frutos tratan de atraer animales para que dispersen sus semillas. Si un animal come un fruto, muchas de las semillas que éste contiene recorren el tracto digestivo del animal sin sufrir daño, para después caer en un lugar idóneo para su germinación. Sin embargo, no todos los frutos dependen de ser comestibles para dispersarse. Otros, como los abrojos, se dispersan aferrándose al pelaje de los animales. Translation - English In botany, the fruit is the organ derived from the flower, or parts of it, that contain the seeds until they are mature, after which it helps disperse them. From an ontogenic point of view, the fruit is the developed and mature ovary of flowering plants. The ovary wall thickens as it transforms into the fruit wall and is called the pericarp, which protects the seeds. Often, other parts of the flower beside the ovary are part of the formation of the fruit, like the chalice or the receptacle.
The fruit is another adaptation, along with flowers, that has contributed to the evolutionary success of the angiosperms. Just like flowers attract insects to transport pollen, many fruits try to attract animals to disperse their seeds. If an animal eats a fruit, many of the seeds inside it pass through the digestive tract without incurring damage, and are then deposited in an ideal place for their germination. Nevertheless, not all fruits depend on being edible for dispersion. Others, like thistles, disperse by attaching to the skins of animals. Some develop winged structures to be dispersed by the wind, like maples. The variety of types of fruits that angiosperms have developed throughout their evolution has allowed them to invade and conquer all possible terrestrial habitats.

Es cuestión no sólo del número de ecosistemas y distintas especies de plantas y animales en existencia en un momento dado, sino también de las diferencias genéticas dentro de cada especie individual. Esta gran diversidad de especies de plantas y animales tiene un valor intrínsico, por el mero hecho de existir. Es más, la diversidad biológica es más que un concepto; es un valioso recurso natural, esencial para la existencia y el comercio humano.
Los principales cultivos alimenticios actuales se derivaron de especies silvestres, y la existencia de la variabilidad genética en forma de parientes silvestres de cultivos domésticos, es fuente de constantes mejoras en su rendimiento y resistencia a enfermedades o cambios opresivos en las condiciones ambientales. Muchas industrias dependen de las plantas y animales para tanino, resinas, tinturas, aceites y otras materias primas. Translation - English Biological diversity, or biodiversity, refers to the variety of biological resources of the world - its living organisms. It’s a matter of not only the number of ecosystems and distinct species of plants and animals living in a particular point in time, but also of the genetic differences within each individual species. This great diversity of plant and animal species has an intrinsic value, merely by existing. Furthermore, biological diversity is more than a concept; it is a valuable natural resource, essential for human existence and commerce.
The main food crops at present are derived from wild species, and the presence of genetic variability in the form of wild relatives of domestic crops is a source of constant improvement in their performance and resistance to disease or oppressive changes in the environmental conditions. Many industries depend on plants and animals for tannins, resins, dyes, oils and other raw materials. A large number of modern pharmaceuticals originate from wild species of fungi, bacteria, higher plants and animals. Many crops are pollinated through natural events. Wild species help prevent pest outbreaks. Having only inventoried a small fraction of the species that exist (possibly no more than five per cent), the diversity of biological resources promises numerous discoveries of useful products that until now have not been identified.

Source text - English In 2025, nine urban agglomerations will have over 20 million inhabitants, with Tokyo having over 30 million inhabitants. Twenty of the 25 largest urban agglomerations will be in the developing countries of Africa, Asia and Latin America.
The scale and pace of this migration is creating unprecedented social, political, cultural and environmental challenges. Supplying urban inhabitants with sufficient food – but also, more importantly, with affordable food – will put an enormous strain on the food supply and distribution chain.
Translation - Spanish En el 2025, nueve aglomeraciones urbanas tendrán más de 20 millones de habitantes, la ciudad de Tokio contará con 30 millones de habitantes. Veinte de las 25 aglomeraciones urbanas más grandes pertenecerán a países en desarrollo en lugares como África, Asia y Latinoamérica.
