Source text - English Parts Objective of Module One of the most fundamental responsibilities of the CSR is to order, follow up on, and receive customer parts from the manufacturer. In some stores, specific individuals are assigned the task of monitoring parts, while in others it is the responsibility of each CSR to monitor his/her own outstanding parts orders. Regardless of the system used by your particular store, it is crucial that each CSR be fully versed in the parts process from beginning to end. This module will introduce you to that process. _____________________________________________________________________ INTRODUCTION TO PARTS Most manufacturers provide a one year parts and labour warranty on the products they sell. Regardless of the manufacturer’s warranty, Leon’s wants our customers to be happy with their purchase, and it is our policy to do whatever it takes to ensure that this is the case. When a problem arises with an item that is purchased with a manufacturer’s warranty, as most products are, the CSR is responsible for ensuring that the manufacturer complies with the terms of their written warranty and that the customer is taken care of in a timely manner. For electronics and appliance purchases, the manufacturer will generally provide an authorized service depot which will be responsible for inspecting the product, diagnosing the problem, ordering any parts needed and repairing the unit. In these cases, it is the duty of the CSR to follow up with the customer and the manufacturer, and ensure the repair takes place in a reasonable amount of time. If the repair takes too long, the CSR should contact the manufacturer and request an authorization to exchange the unit for the customer and return the defective piece for full credit. For other items requiring service (upholstery, cased goods, etc) within the warranty period, Leon’s will provide our own technician to inspect the unit and order any parts required. The CSR will be responsible for:  Ordering parts  Following up with vendor  Following up with customer  Receiving part  Contacting customer/technician to advise that part has been received It is also important to keep a supply of frequently needed parts on hand, such as sofa legs, hardware, shelf pegs, etc. The CSR should make regular trips to the parts room to take inventory of these items and order replacements as stock becomes low. It is also important to take note of any items that are repeatedly shipped with parts missing, so that the CSR, the Service Manager and the Buyer can work with the Vendor to address the issue. It should be noted that there are some overseas manufacturers who offer no warranty whatsoever with their products. In these cases where parts are not available, it is up to the discretion of the Service/General Manager, and in some cases the Buyer, to determine the best course of action in resolving any service issues. Customers are generally not expected to pay for any parts or labour which are required within the term of the manufacturer’s warranty (some exceptions apply). Once the warranty has expired, however, the customer must purchase any parts needed and pay labour charges. The occasional exception may be made to this rule and the CSR should solicit the help of the Service/General Manager when making this decision. Warranty Parts Industry standards suggest that 4-6 weeks is an appropriate time to wait for parts. Naturally, there will be some exceptions to this rule. In cases where a customer is waiting for a cosmetic part (a toss cushion, for example) a 4-6 week wait might seem reasonable. If, however, the customer is waiting for an essential part, such as hardware, the CSR is responsible for resolving the issue much more quickly. This may involve contacting the manufacturer to expedite the part or providing the part from stock. It may also be feasible to have a technician repair the item without requiring additional parts. It is important to assess both the visible (i.e. cost of technician) and invisible (i.e. customer satisfaction) costs associated with parts orders to determine the best way to resolve the issue. In all cases it is our responsibility to recover any additional expenses incurred when servicing items under a manufacturer’s warranty. Source text - English SECTION 2 - BACKGROUND Ontario’s Bear Wise Program originated from recommendations made by the Nuisance Bear Review Committee in their 2003 report to then MNR Minister Ramsay. Minister Ramsay accepted the recommendation that the Ministry of Natural Resources will play the lead role in managing nuisance bears in collaboration with municipalities, police services, aboriginal and unorganized communities, stakeholders and individuals. The result was Bear Wise and the program was implemented in April, 2004. The purpose of Bear Wise was to develop a program that would provide for MNR, along with municipalities, police services, unorganized communities, aboriginal communities, individuals and stakeholders that would deliver a coordinated nuisance bear program that contributed to human safety and reduce human - bear conflicts. The cornerstones of the program are: 1. A reporting system that allows citizens and police to report problem bear incidents around the clock 7 days a week. Information is inputted into a tracking system called BIRTA (Bear Information Reporting & Tracking Application) and forwarded electronically to corresponding district for follow up. 2. A response program for managing human-black bear conflict. The program includes trap, transfer, aversion conditioning, relocation, chemical immobilization and dispatch of problem bears where necessary. The program also provides advice and support through follow up phone calls and face to face response. 3. An education and awareness program to educate people about the known and preventable causes of human-bear conflict and asking people to take steps to avoid attracting bears. Messaging is supported through a variety of educational products and communication efforts which attempt to give people with a better understanding of bear ecology and a greater knowledge of actions to reduce or avoid human - bear conflicts. 4. A prevention program to assist and support communities in efforts to reduce human - bear conflicts by reducing and managing attractants and managing greenspaces. The program also includes a community funding initiative to provide communities with improved capacity to manage attractants. Bear Wise also includes the following objectives: 1. To develop and implement an effective 1-800 number and coordinated response system for problem bears that protects public safety and appropriately integrates MNR’s role in support of police agencies who are the first response organization to a threatening bear. 5 2. To support communities and municipalities in the development and implementation of a prevention program to significantly reduce the number of human - bear conflicts over 3 years. 3. To develop and implement an awareness program aimed at communities, school children and residents (temporary and permanent) that results in an increase in the understanding of bear ecology and a reduction in human-bear conflicts caused by attractants to bears. 4. To collect and analyze information which allows us to credibly assess the effectiveness of each of the elements of the program over time and provides useful information to our stakeholders and the public. 5. To develop a program which is normalized as core business by the end of 3 years with an emphasis on prevention and awareness and a significant reduction in the handling of nuisance bears. Since its inception, it has been the intent of the Bear Wise Program to place a high priority on education, awareness and communication. Experiences both from within MNR and from other North American jurisdictions demonstrated that one of the primary causes of human-bear conflicts are attractants such as human food waste, composted materials and animal foods. Controlling availability of these attractants by educating the public has met with mixed success. This may be in part due to societal attitudes which are known to change slowly over time. Continued emphasis on education, prevention and communication is key to influencing this change. Reporting and response were put in place to address the public’s concern that no individual agency was taking responsibility for human- bear conflicts. Emergency situations have always been a police service responsibility, and that continues to be recognized in the current program and by police themselves. However, overall responsibility for the management of human-bear conflicts rest with MNR. Bear Wise funding is currently divided between 5 program areas and has a total compliment of 32 FTE’s. Les expériences du MRN et d'autres juridictions nord-américaines ont démontré que les principales causes des conflits de l'humain et de l'ours sont les attractifs, tels que les déchets d'aliments humains, les produits compostables et les aliments pour les animaux. Le contrôle de la disponibilité de ces attractifs en éduquant le public n'a pas eu le succès escompté. Ceci pourrait être attribuable aux attitudes sociétales qui évoluent lentement au fil du temps. La clé pour influencer ce changement consiste à accorder une priorité continue à l'éducation, la prévention et la communication. La déclaration et l'intervention ont été mises en place afin de tenir compte de la préoccupation du public concernant le fait qu'aucune agence individuelle n'assumait la responsabilité des conflits entre l'humain et l'ours. Les situations d'urgence ont toujours été la responsabilité des services de police et cet état de fait continu à être reconnu dans le programme actuel et par les policiers eux-mêmes. Toutefois, la responsabilité générale de la gestion des conflits entre l'humain et l'ours est entre les mains du MRN. 6 Le financement d'Attention : ours est actuellement divisé en cinq secteurs de programme et dispose d'un effectif de 32 ETP. After 2 years working for Natural Ressources Canada (federal government), I came back in Montreal to work as a freelancer. And now, my expertise is available for you.
