Hi Everyone:
Hopefully by now, you’ve noticed an increase in your energy levels from your workouts.
It feels good, doesn’t it?
As your workouts get longer and/or more intense, it’s important to think about your diet to make sure you keep feeling this good!
You may be surprised to learn that as your workouts increase, you don’t need to make drastic changes to what you eat.
You may have heard that working out means you should increase your intake of carbohydrates or also known as carbs – you know, eat more starchy foods like breads, pasta and potatoes.
However, loading up on carbs isn’t the answer unless you are engaged in long-distance or very high intensity exercise like a marathon.
Always maintain well-balanced meals that consist of the right amounts of starchy foods, vegetables, fruits, meat, poultry, fish, eggs, and in smaller amounts, sweets and fats too!
Running or walking a couple of kilometers or miles at an easy pace will burn about 200 to 300 calories, which doesn’t really demand lumberjack portions of carbs (or anything else) before or after your workout.
You’d be better served by eating healthy foods throughout the day and having a small snack an hour or two before your workout.
Just make sure you don’t skip meals early in the day or try to run on fumes—you’ll just set yourself up for disaster.
As for after your workout, go with a snack that offers a few healthy carbs and some protein like low-fat string cheese with a few whole grain crackers.
While we’re on the topic of food, make sure to eat real food.
While there are a bunch of supplements and superfoods out there that promise enhanced performance, I recommend keeping it simple.
Unprocessed, natural foods will give you the energy you need to make it through your workouts.
These foods are better for you because they generally have more nutrients and fewer additives (such as fats) than foods that have been more heavily processed.
Focus on quality calories from veggies, fruits, whole grains, low-fat dairy and lean protein, and you’ll be fueled with everything you need.
Think of it this way – a car won’t go or perform well without the proper fuel in its tank, nor will your body.
No matter how much or how little you exercise, whether you are trying to lose weight or maintain, you have to feed your body healthfully to make it work well.
Pay attention to the care and feeding of your body and it will respond to the demands of exercise by getting stronger.
Relying on proper nutrition is only half the equation to peak performance.
The other half?
Water!
As we work together to support the Dow Live Earth Run for Water, we’re learning how essential water is to human life, and how difficult it is for millions of our global neighbors to access.
Thankfully, for most of us safe, clean, drinking water is just down the hall.
So drink up!
But you don’t need to go overboard; just make sure you’re keeping yourself hydrated throughout the day and during and after your workouts.
You really don’t need an advanced hydration strategy, nor do you need sweetened sports drinks – which, as an aside, often contain a lot of extra sugar and calories you don’t want.

glasses of water a day should meet your needs.

TRAINING TIP FOR THE WEEK
Elite athlete Jenny Fletcher’s favorite food to increase energy while training is peanut butter.
She says, “It’s important to fuel your body with nutrient-dense foods that you like.
I love my protein shakes that I make with peanut butter when I feel like I need a boost.” Peanut butter is indeed a great option if you’re looking for a quick jolt of energy before working out.
There are high amounts of proteins present in peanuts, together with very important micro-nutrients such as Vitamin E, Vitamin B3 and large amounts of beneficial minerals such as iron, magnesium, potassium, copper and calcium.
Just don’t overdo it!

If I am participating in the Dow Live Earth Run for Water to lose weight, should I change my diet?
If you are participating in the Dow Live Earth Run for Water to jump-start a weight loss program, remember that diet and exercise work in tandem to generate weight loss.
To ensure that you are maximizing your weight loss efforts, you will need to cut back on your daily food intake.
Nothing drastic here—cutting out a cookie or two (or another 100-calorie food) every day can make a dent in your weight.
Instead of skipping meals, think about eating smaller portions and fewer fried foods.

Source text - English Other restaurants are dedicated to providing five-star cuisine and the world’s finest wines. Although far too many to mention here, they include Le Normandie at the Oriental, Le Beaulieu and De Sens. Italian cooking has also caught the imagination of local and expatriate diners, and Bangkok now boasts dozens of restaurants specialising in that country’s cuisine. Similarly, steak houses like New York, Madison and RR&B have a big following of regular customers.
But it’s not necessary to spend well to eat well in Bangkok. The city has thousands of hole-in-the-wall outlets, often run by an extended family, which have gained fame amongst locals for a particular Thai dish as well as the quality of its preparation and taste.
Although it’s been around since time immemorial, Thai massage has attained new heights of appreciation in Bangkok over the past few years. A new generation of specialist spas and health and wellness centers has sprung up across the city, and the benefits of their services are now being properly recognized by a much wider audience.
Bangkok is also packed with shopping malls, street markets and areas dedicated to the world’s favourite pastime. Prices can be inexpensive by Western standards, especially for locally-produced items like clothes and handicrafts. Although bargaining is expected in some outlets, the shops in big department stores generally have fixed but very reasonable prices.
Perhaps the city’s most famous informal shopping venue is the giant Chatuchak Weekend Market, known by locals as J.J. Market, which is easily accessible via both mass transit systems. The MRT Kamphaeng Phet station opens right into the market.

Introduction To Expedia’s Green Hotel Program
In April of 2008 Expedia launched “A traveler’s guide to going green,” a place where travelers could learn more about what it means to travel sustainably. Over the past two years we’ve had many requests to expand the green store and especially the green hotel section.
We are pleased to announce a new program for our hotel partners that is more dynamic and covers more certification programs than ever before. As an Expedia partner, you can now use Expedia PartnerCentral to access tools that allow you to highlight your property’s green efforts.
This guide will help walk you through the process for registering your property and certification program. We also provide instructions for those of you who do not have access to Expedia PartnerCentral.

Please register your property as soon as possible. We will be re-launching the Green Hotels list found in the Green Travel store late in Q1 2010. Make sure your property is included!
If you are not currently working with a certification program and would like to participate in Expedia’s Green Hotel Program our partners at Sustainable Travel International are ready to help. They will provide free access to a 1st party certification self-assessment tool to the first 100 properties that contact them. Once the quota is reached they will provide a 50% discount to remaining properties through Friday, February 12th. Please see slide 11 for further details. Sustainable Travel International also provides 3rd party certification programs.
Expedia is a proud member of the Tourism Sustainability Council (TSC). The TSC is a global council comprised of governments, UN bodies, research and academic institutions, social and environmental NGOs, certification programs and other private business including Expedia. The TSC council will provide global sustainable tourism guidelines that foster awareness of the importance of sustainable tourism, help protect the environment and support local communities.

This program is open to all Expedia hotel partners. If you are one of our hotel partners without access to Expedia PartnerCentral and would like to participate in the Expedia Green Hotels program please follow the steps below:
