23,000 word translation of a play for famous Russian writer
I was honored to translate "The Dragon" - a famous play (and a movie!) by an esteemed Russian playwright, Yevgeny Schwartz. It's a brilliant magical satire and a criticism on totalitarian regimes and the people who live under them. Growing up, I had Schwartz's collected plays on my bookshelf and remember reading them over and over again. His work greatly influenced and inspired my own writing.
When an Australian theater company contacted me for this project 15 years after I first fell in love with Schwart's work, my excitement knew no bounds. Working on this play was definitely a labor of love, and it showed - upon receiving my translation, the project manager responded: "Very happy with your work. Really well done!"
