Hello,

does anybody know if living expenses (electricity, gas, water, cost of renting accommodation) are at least partially deductible in Portugal?
My accountant believes they are not but I found this quite strange.

Thanks for your help,

Amandine

Regime Simplificado May 3, 2008

It depends on how you are registed with the tax authorities. If you opted for the 'Regime Simplificado', you cannot deduct any expenses in your taxes. If you opted for 'Contabilidade Organizada', then you can.

If you don't remember being asked about this, then you are probably in 'Regime Simplificado'. This is the default option. Check the following links for some pointers:

TOPIC STARTER
Aaaah... May 3, 2008

Is that so simple?

We are indeed in "Regime simplificado", so this would explain that!
Our "contabilista" said that it would be the best regime for us since our professional expenses are pretty low. Yet, given that he never dealt with any translator until now (and we are a pretty peculiar "species" of workers, indeed, aren't we?), I wanted to make sure that he wasn't making any mistake...

Muito obrig

Muito obrigada pela ajuda, então!
