Update Mar 27, 2020

As an update to this thread: We have addressed most of the issues that came up. People are now choosing the new interface over that old at a rate of 3-to-1. If anything is still bothering you about the new design, please post.

We have no plans currently to discontinue support of the old design. But if you have not checked the new one in some time, you might want to do so.

Dark green background still unpleasant Mar 27, 2020

It's definitely better than it was in the beginning, but the dark green background is still a showstopper for me. There is too little contrast, which makes it difficult and unpleasant to read.

This particularly applies to peer comments. In the old version, the background is a pleasant white. In the new version, it's this nauseating dark green. It literally makes me feel sick.

Another advantage in the old version is the 'Vote non-PRO' button, which is clearly visible. In the new version, it has been hidden behind an icon and the misleading mouseover text 'Edit question'. To vote non-PRO is not to edit the question.

If these issues are fixed, I might be able to get used to the new version.

My two cents Apr 10, 2020

Hi Henry,
It's no secret that I am a huge fan of the old interface. The layout and the colours suit my eye and my square brain, and I feel that it has a distinctive personality that stands out from the new blurry designs.
This, of course, is subjective. I do try to get to like the new version, but it's a pleasure and a relief to switch back to the old one; hopefully it will remain available for desktop users.

Hi Henry,
It's no secret that I am a huge fan of the old interface.

Besides the lost or scattered features already signalled by colleagues on the wiew pages, I particularly dislike the new list page as opposed to the old one.

1. Lack of structure:
- The selected answer in a closed question is barely distinguishable from the "leading" answer in an open question (only a question mark which looks quite odd on a professional site).
- It requires an extra effort to sort out the "non- PRO" and the "closed" signs.
- The field of specialisation has a stronger visual impact than the actual question.

2. As I said in a previous post:

Hi Henry,

I am sorry to disagree with your idea of establishing a leading answer for the following reasons:

2.- The proposed feature might encourage answerers to raise their confidence level in order to promote their answer. We already have too many thoughtless answers with high confidence levels.

3.- This “endorsement” by the site of a particular answer might influence both peers and askers – experience shows that a most voted answer is not necessarily the best –, deter other options and discourage discussion, one of the best features in KudoZ.

In short, I believe the site should not interfere with the KudoZ process.

Just yesterday, this question illustrated my point: https://www.proz.com/kudoz/english-to-spanish/other/6797255-rice-rinse-water.html

The "leading" answer on the list is supported solely by confidence level vs. an answer supported by peer comment, which makes it even worse, but even a most voted answer should remain on equal terms with the rest. Anything else is unfair.

I prefer the old (current) version, which can be improved if a flag is added next to the country in order to visually identify faster where the translator/interpreter comes from.

DOes the new interface have a general closing note? Nov 29, 2020

There were promises to implement it "at some point".

I don't have a Kudoz question now, this is why I ask.

A propos of the Kudoz interface Dec 21, 2020

I have just created a new thread entitled

'Can the "Vote non-pro" box please be repositioned?'

I hope this will be given some consideration - if enough people agree with my suggestion.

Why change? Dec 23, 2020

As has been remarked, Google is a commercial company, which wants you to use/read advertisements. I understand Proz not to be commercial. The new format is no more user-friendly - perhaps less so - for those of us who work on PCs and laptops. If you want a mobile phone version, as has been suggested, why not produce a dedicated version and leave the computer screen version alone?

I've found it and tried it. I don't see any improvements to the graphics or the colours - but that's an issue that extends to the whole website, which looks terribly dated and is not easy on the eye. The yellowish colour behind this text you are reading is just about the worst colour there could be for causing eye strain.

One thing I do find a little more useful is the way the new GUI groups together all the questions made on the same date by a particular user. This helps to identify users who have taken on a job for which they really don't have the vocabulary or skills and who ask multiple questions about it, one after another. This, alas, happens very frequently and tends to waste a lot of our time.

What would be useful right now would be that when I get an email notification of a new question, with a link to the question, that the link would go to the new interface. At present it still sends me to the old interface.

The new design is so full of contrasts that it makes my eyes tired from using the page. Nov 28, 2022

The new design is so full of contrasts that it makes my eyes tired from using the page. I switched back to the old design today. It is so much more 'collected' and calmer to look at. It makes it much easier to find what you need. As a web designer, I do however question the choice of colours behind the text. Why not change to a light grey instead of the yellow? The yellow makes it look a bit outdated.
