Dear members,

In anticipation of the next translation contest, a feature has been introduced to allow for submission of potential source texts.

Texts can be proposed, and then tagged and commented on by the submitter and others, to evaluate them against the criteria for translation contest source text selection.

In anticipation of the next translation contest, a feature has been introduced to allow for submission of potential source texts.

Texts can be proposed, and then tagged and commented on by the submitter and others, to evaluate them against the criteria for translation contest source text selection.

It is hoped that this collaborative feature will help ensure that future contests showcase source texts in a wider variety of languages, allowing more members of the community to participate.

Just a little comment about copyrights Jun 26, 2013

I think it would be safer to obtain permission anyway, unless the relevant copyright can safely be judged to have expired (which, however, means the source is quite old, which may have some drawbacks). This is because copyright laws differ from jurisdiction to jurisdiction, and while as far as I know American and perhaps English law should be pretty reasonable here, continental systems and other systems with statutory regulation of copyrights and fair could easily create a problem (e.g. permissi... This is because copyright laws differ from jurisdiction to jurisdiction, and while as far as I know American and perhaps English law should be pretty reasonable here, continental systems and other systems with statutory regulation of copyrights and fair could easily create a problem (e.g. permission required even if no compensation due, or the opposite: compensation due even if permission not required). Now, no remotely reasonable person would go after the winners or other participants or even graders, but anybody associated with organising the contest or picking the source texts could be in trouble with the one or more of the jurisdictions potentially involved. ▲ Collapse
