Is there a way to copy a message that is displayed in the message window. I'm not sure about Trados, but you can copy the text in many message windows with Ctrl+A (select all), then Ctrl+C (copy). Note that in many windows, you can't actually see that the text is selected, but it is copied anyway. | | | Jaime Oriard Mexico Local time: 03:28 Member (2005) English to Spanish + ... XLIFF 1.1-1.2 v 2.0.0.0 is a default file type. If is is not available in your system it is because you disabled it. Re-enable it in your File Types options menu. | | | Alaa Zeineldine Egypt Local time: 11:28 Member (2002) English to Arabic + ... TOPIC STARTER Ctrl+C doesn't work | Oct 16, 2018 |
Thanks Thomas, but copying doesn't work, whether using Ctrl+C or the context menu. Thomas T. Windows' Snipping Tool grabs any part of the screen directly with no need for cropping. Many people don't know about this tool. Neither of these methods help the OP. He doesn't want to create an image of the text he sees on screen. He wants to copy it as text (i.e. text that you can edit in a text editor). Kleptomania might work for this: http://www.structurise.com/kleptomania/ It might not be able to copy text that is not on screen, but if you can scroll then you can copy until you've captured everything. It doesn't work in all programs. | | | That depends | Oct 18, 2018 |
That depends on the type of dialog box (containing the message) - some dialog boxes come with text boxes that allow selection (just click on text area and drag or press Ctrl-A (to select all), if it works (i.e. if text is highlighted) press Ctrl-C (now you have it on clipboard) and paste it in your email message. Some dialog boxes will have "labels" instead of text boxes and will not allow selection. You said "In fact, for long messages, you cannot keep the whole message visible on ... Do they come with vertical scroll bars? If they do, chances are those are text boxes and you can select the text inside (so above should work). ▲ Collapse | | | Samuel Murray Netherlands Local time: 10:28 Member (2006) English to Afrikaans + ... @Haluk and @Merab | Oct 19, 2018 |

If they do, chances are those are text boxes and you can select the text inside (so above should work). As someone who sometimes use Trados, I can confirm that Trados error messages sometimes do have horizontal and/or vertical scroll bars even though the text is not selectable/copyable. It's quite annoying because if you want to send a screenshot to the client, you have to make multiple screenshots and paste them together in an image editor. Sometimes these message have long file names/paths in them that cause the scroll bar, but sometimes the text simply doesn't wrap at the end of the line, so sometimes you can't see the entire line all at once even if you resize the error message the maximum width allowed by your screen (besides, not all of Trados' error messages can be resized). A PDF is only smaller than an image file if the program that generates the PDF is specifically set to do that, and if the image file is particularly large. Which program do you use to convert e.g. JPG to PDF?
