Maybe it's one of those so-called "optional sub-classifications", belonging to s83.5.

ICD-10-WHO vs. ICD-10-GM May 30, 2017

Hi, code S83.53 is from the ICD-10-GM, the German modification of the ICD-10-WHO, "adapted to the specific requirements of the German health care system" (see below).

Here is the German-language version of ICD-10-WHO, without your code (finest classification level is S83.5, Verstauchung und Zerrung des Kniegelenkes mit Beteiligung des (vorderen) (hinteren) Kreuzbandes): https://www.dimdi.de/static/de/klassi/icd-10-who/kodesuche/onlinefassungen/htmlamtl2016/block-s80-s89.htm
As you know, the ICD-10-GM has your classification (S83.53, Riss des vorderen Kreuzbandes Partieller oder kompletter Riss): http://www.dimdi.de/static/de/klassi/icd-10-gm/kodesuche/onlinefassungen/htmlgm2017/block-s80-s89.htm

Here is a history of the the ICD-10-GM: http://www.dimdi.de/static/en/klassi/icd-10-gm/historie/adaption.htm. As you can see, the German modification was at one time based on the Australian modification, ICD-10-AM, "in order to facilitate the introduction of the AR-DRG (Australian Refined Diagnoses Related Groups) remuneration system in the inpatient sector in Germany. To that end, Chapters I to XIX were expanded largely on the basis of the Australian ICD-10-AM". So if you are looking for an "official" English equivalent, you might find it in the ICD-10-AM. This seems not to be available free of charge, though.
