I have received a TM as an MDB file, AFAIK Studio 2009 does not support it. Which tool could I use to convert it to TMX?

TIA
Stanislaw

MetaTexis for Word May 18, 2011

Hello Stanislaw,

with MetaTexis for Word (www.metatexis.com) you can import MDB files into a TM and then export the TM as TMX file. It's a two-step process. However, if this will really work out depends on the way the data are saved in the MDB file. If there is one table that contains two columns where one is for the source text and another one for the translation, it should work.

Thank you Hermann.
I don't know if it changes anything but the TM contains several languages.

Cheers

SDLX memory? May 18, 2011

MDB file, is it a SDLX memory? You can use Deja Vu X to import that TM and export segments in two or more language in TMX format.

Since you have Studio 2009... May 18, 2011

which comes with Trados 2007 and SDLX 2007, use SDLX Maintain function to export the TM from the native (SDLX's) format to TMX.

Thank you all so much! May 18, 2011

I'll use SDLX.

I guess it's rather ignorant of me that I don't know functions of a program I had on my computer for a few years but I never really needed SDLX - finally I can use it for something

Encoding problems with SDLX' export to tmx May 19, 2011

Hi Stanislaw!

I am doing a similar project and I found that SDLX exported in UTF-16, I believe, but we need unicode.

Any suggestions?

Cheers, Bob

At the last stage of exporting to TMX you can choose (at least on my computer) from a drop down menu between UTF-8 and Unicode.

Looks very interesting May 19, 2011

Thank you Natalie for sharing this

It seemsto be a good solution and it's even free - nice surprise. Probably it's not such a big problem that the TM is in read only mode - after all one may use it along another TM.

I need to test it one day.

Hi Stanislaw!

I still have the problem. Both choices produce a garbled text in the output tmx. Any other ideas?

Cheers, Bob

I am not sure what you could do - maybe it depends on a language as I did not have any problems. One idea which comes to my mind is that you could save the TMX file as txt and than using save as in notepad save it with a different encoding and than again change the file extension to tmx.

Good luck!
Stanislaw
