Suspiciously similar poll! Feb 19, 2012

The January 13 poll this year was titled "Do you have network attached storage?"

The issue of data backups was passionately and exhaustively discussed in this poll.

Is this yet another rehashed poll?

Added the following:
I also wrote the following in another recent rehashed poll "Have you increased your rates for 2012?"

When you suggest a poll, one of the guidelines on the Suggest a Poll page is, would you believe

"Ensure that a similar question has not been asked recently by searching for key terms".

Maybe some double-checking would come in handy!

I'm lost. Could someone enlighten me?

USB pen drive Feb 19, 2012

An 8 or, at a push, a 16 Gig memory stick is enough for my needs. I had an external hard drive which went phut after about 6 months of low-volume use and I was surprised to find that this is normal. They simply give you a new one! I decided it wasn't worth the bother and for now the USB pen does the job.

But it would be great if this poll included Internet backup (I use both).

I outgrew the smaller ones and now have 1 terabyte for each computer.

I tried Internet storage, but it's took expensive for the volume of my files.

The temporary (weekly) backup is on CD-R.
Once a month - time permitting - all CD-R content is transered to an external hard drive.
Having two copies can't hurt.

Rehashed polls reaching epidemic levels.... Feb 19, 2012

Yawn.

I totally agree with Julian...and I'm finding it increasingly hard to be polite about it.

Oh! By the way, this poll was suggested by the one and the same person as the Jan 13 poll.
So, hey everybody, that's basically an identical poll "originated" by the same person getting a rerun in five weeks!

Aren't the rules and criteria for getting polls posted becoming arbitrary and capricious?

USB pen Feb 19, 2012

and external hard drive. The latter is in case I have to do a really full system backup, if i want to upgrade my system. But for most of my documents the USD pen is good enough.

Cloud computing/Internet backups are also great against computer / external HD / USB pen / CD-R theft / loss / damaging through fire / shocks / etc. !

Plus you can access the files from any computer on Earth !

I thought CD-Rs were on their way out, but they could be useful as a temporary backup solution. How about DVDs or Blue-Ray ROM discs instead? Nah, too expensive, right?

A combination of external hard drives for keeping a second set of data, a cloned disk in my desktop computer in case of catastrophic HDD failure, and weekly backups with Acronis is pretty much all I need.

P.S. To the early comments that these are rehashed polls, I agree. Some of you guys have a better memory than I!
