Poll: Do you take any supplements to boost your mental activity? Thread poster: ProZ.com Staff

Caffeine, Too | Apr 17, 2012 |
The first thing I do every morning, before I get to work, is make a pot of coffee. Studies have proved that caffeine makes the mind function much more quickly and more efficiently, something that I, as a translator, am glad I can take advantage of.

I will keep on working as far as I can, and I will take rest if I feel tired.

As the venerable Jack has said, the act of translation boosts one's mental activity. Coffee in excess, deep sleep and food in moderation, the odd chat with friends, and the occasional bout of physical exertion combined with a healthy dose of sunshine and fresh air seem to do the trick for me.

I just try to maintain a (reasonably) healthy lifestyle with a combination of plenty sleep, exercise, balanced diet and regular computer breaks. However, I do resort to coffee, wine, chocolate and burning the midnight oil from time to time...

I do enjoy coffee in the morning, dark chocolate on occasion (but just because it's good, not necessarily for mental activity:)). As far as exercise, I like to feel productive so walking the dog and gardening suits me. A break in the garden does wonders between translation sessions. Nobody mentioned omega fatty acids in the vitamin category, it's not a magic bullet, but it's one I include in my daily diet.

Not wine (puts me to sleep), but a Martini in the evening does wonders. Just one, though
...and exercise. I find that I'm most productive just after the gym (early evening). Mornings are a killer so LOTS of Red Bull (coffee makes me hurl...)
