Dear Colleagues,

I created a Facebook group (Starting as a Freelance Translator) in order to unite translators who just started working as freelancers.
Searching through the forums of ProZ.com or TC.com, I noticed that we all have to deal with the same problems as newbies in the industry. Dear Colleagues,

I created a Facebook group (Starting as a Freelance Translator) in order to unite translators who just started working as freelancers.
Searching through the forums of ProZ.com or TC.com, I noticed that we all have to deal with the same problems as newbies in the industry. We all have little experience and hardly any regular customers. We do not know the most efficient marketing strategies to attract a high number of customers and many of us are at times deeply frustrated about our empty E-Mail inbox.

This group is to share experiences and strategies and, most important, to connect with each other and help each other. Why fighting on our own if we can work together?
This group can be the beginning of a new community where all the translators who are new in the industry work together as a team.

If you want to join, you should have a profile on ProZ.com, TC.com or a similar community and less than two years experience as a translator. Please apply with a link to your ProZ-Profile.

Hope to meet you there soon.

Can wannabees join? May 22, 2012

Hi Martin,

I'm hoping to use my German and English language skills to become a freelance translator. As such I am not working currently as one but would like to benefit from forums such as Facebook to get advice on what training would be good, etc. Can translators in spe join too?

Regards,
Bridge

It's your group but... May 22, 2012

Don't you think that it could be more benefitial to discuss problems faced by beginners on a forum where are also present people who have already solved such problems? Otherwise quite often discussion may reach a point: "OK, we have a problem" without ever getting to "we have a solution".

Cheers
S

Thanks for your comments May 22, 2012

Thanks for your comments.

@Stanislaw: The group is not supposed to be a substitute for this forum. I definitely encourage every newcomer to use the ProZ platform and share their ideas and problems with this community.
The FB Group is just a place for beginners to connect and discuss their current situation and to motivate each other. As beginners, we all have the same kind of problems, which are not yet as diverse as those of experienced translators. If anyone of the beginners

The FB Group is just a place for beginners to connect and discuss their current situation and to motivate each other. As beginners, we all have the same kind of problems, which are not yet as diverse as those of experienced translators. If anyone of the beginners managed to solve a problem of this kind or got a valuable advice, maybe even by the ProZ community, he can share that with other newbies without fearing that it will get lost in a community as huge as ProZ.

@Brikar: Of course you can join. Looking forward to see you there
