Combining Translation Memories in Trados 2011
Thread poster: papakarl

Dear all,

since I'm new in using Trados 2011:
somehov I've created a bunch of Translation Memories, which I want to combine into a single Translation Memory.
I want to get rid of all these variants created before and to have all the entries embedded in only ONE Translation Memory.

Please help.

Thank you.

Export and import Apr 21, 2013

You need to create one new TM, export the other ones to TMX files and then import those TMX fles into your new TM.

Once you do it you can eliminate duplicate entries using maintenance function.

Best Regards
Stanislaw

If they are in Trados 2011 Apr 21, 2013

You don't even need to do the tmx route.

Just create a new blank translation memory and then import the others into it. However, if you have several variants of the same translation, they may all show up in the new TM. You may have to do a little work to get it exactly the way you want.

This should work Apr 21, 2013

Yes, thank you all. I think this should work.
I'll try the tmx-way, because all my TM-files are like .sdl-bla-bla files and they won't get imported into another .sdl-bla-bla file

You could of course use the merge TM route Apr 21, 2013

If you do this then you can create new TMs from any supported TM... even SDL blah blah ones Advantages of this route is you also take fields and settings, variable lists etc. none of which are available as a complete set through TMX.

Paul
