incl.
- someone high up at the Food Standards Agency
- a Canadian make-up artist
- me as a runner first and then a translator
- a couple of administrators/managers at Harvard and a hospital in Sheffield respectively

And my name pops up quite a lot on genealogy websites, because my first name is pretty much one of the most popular ever in England.

19200 vs less than 278 Apr 20, 2007

19.200 for my alias, and it seems it's always me: What a chatterbox!!! (Yes: 10 years on-line is a real lot).

278 for me and a few more with the same name.

Apart of this, there's a physicist working in my Ph.D. field, with the same Initial + last name, so that both of us could add up a few articles to our CV and no one would probably notice !!!

Me and the other me Apr 20, 2007

I looked myself up on Google awhile back. I was both happy and amazed. On the Spanish version of Google I was the number one hit thanks to my profile. (I’ve since been relegated to number 9, but they do say “fame is fleeting”.)
What amazed me though was to find another fellow with the same name and living in Spain too!
John is obviously the, or one of the, most common names in English but my surname is not particularly common.

It turns out that the other me is a member of a sailing team and so also appears in several hits. I’ve discovered from looking at the visitor IP addresses to my profile that several people were actually looking for information on him and ended up visiting my profile.
I guess it’s not a common name but it sure has been useful sharing it with someone else. Now, I just have to hope that he isn’t my “doppelganger”.

Not a huge amount of me out there on google, but I am the number one reference for myself, at least!

Other versions of me are:

- a ballet teacher
- working for Swansea local government
- a financial planner
- (this is my personal favourite!!) a character in a novel who was accused of murdering her aunt

One, myself Apr 20, 2007

All Google hits (about 1,400) are about me. My name is unique. I don't know if that's a good or a bad thing...

all me (not surprisingly - a rarish spelling of an English surname combined with a double-barrelled French first name really ought to be unique).

But there's only 50 if you take out Proz.com!

12700 hits total, and apparently it's only me...

(and 423 if I exclude ProZ.com)

There are not all that many people with my surname;

that I know of:

Rosanna Schiaffino (actress - 40,800 hits)

Juan Alberto Schiaffino (soccer champion - 942, plus 682 as "Pepe Schiaffino")

Simone Schiaffino (Italian patriot of the '800 - 746)

Gualtiero Schiaffino (cartoonist - 657, plus 316 as "Skiaffino", his pen name)... See more

Just for comparison:

"Mario Rossi" (the "archetypical" Italian name): 416,000 hits
"John Smith": 1,300,000 or so.

No longer #1 Apr 20, 2007

907 hits

I'm disappointed. When I last Googled myself (several months ago), I was #1. Now I didn't find myself until page 2 of results (my Proz profile page), and it wasn't until page 3 that I found a rash of hits on a book I translated.

I wouldn't have thought that a cross-lingual combo like "Jane Ramirez" would be so common. But I found, before me:

I wouldn't have thought that a cross-lingual combo like "Jane Ramirez" would be so common. But I found, before me:

A CPA for the Catholic Diocese of Austin, Texas
A contact person for HurricaneHousingSearch
A name in an example for an accounting software tutorial
The wife of Edward Ramirez, applying for a Use Permit
A photographer

As Mary Jane Ramirez, I'm the protagonist of a novel called Fish!

As Amanda Jane Ramirez, I'm a writer.

As Valerie Jane Ramirez, I show up in a number of cast/crew lists.

What do the rest of you do on Proz to have so many Proz hits? On the first 3 results pages, at least, my profile was my only Proz hit.

To keep things in perspective: Two years ago I was thrilled to find my very first Google listing! On the other hand, it was on the first page of results...

Off topic: I find it really annoying that if I type P r o Z without the spaces, it is automatically changed to ProZ.com, leading to unwieldy paragraphs like the one above, in which I wrote P r o z three times and got the extended version every time. Is there a way around this?
