Hi, I was wondering if anyone else would like to share the link to a short video or photo montage project they’ve posted personally and publicly on Youtube. It’d be fun to put together a virtual gallery of works by translators that demonstrates another facet of their creativity. Lots of us have a (insert name of your favourite film director) deep down inside and this would be a great opportunity to share that with others. I’m envisioning this as a sort of "Proz.co... Lots of us have a (insert name of your favourite film director) deep down inside and this would be a great opportunity to share that with others. I’m envisioning this as a sort of "Proz.com Virtual Film Makers Gallery". I’m not so interested in posts of, “This is my favourite Youtube video” (although that may be a great forum in and of itself) as I am in sharing a creative side we don’t often see of each other. Feel free to post a link to a silly or serious video you’ve personally made of: a trip you’ve taken, your cat sleeping, your children playing, a lovely countryside, or whatever else you fancy. Here’s the link to my humble offering. It’s a short series of photos from the lovely Costa Brava (Catalonia-Spain) with relaxing background music from the original soundtrack from “Pride and Prejudice” (2006). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GEbMnrWjg5s Let’s see more!! ▲ Collapse | | | Thomas Pfann United Kingdom Local time: 09:03 Member (2006) English to German + ... Hi Thomas, I see you're a pasta fan like I am! I started a recipe exchange forum a few months ago. Your video has given me an idea for another: "Translator's quick lunch recipes". I bet most of us have one! Cheers! | | | something green | Aug 29, 2007 |
Hi Thomas, How about some parsley leaves or green bell pepper, cut into small chunks, on top?

@Monika: Good idea - adds some colour. Sometimes I put chive over it - works quite well, too. @John: Indeed - translators are prone to have loads of quick lunch recipes. Sharing those would be great - just imagine: you get a job through proZ.com, ask a couple of terminology questions on KudoZ and then check the proZ.com recipe collection for inspiration on what to eat. ... I'm a chives fanatic. I put them in or on nearly everything. The only snails I eat though are the ones my wife's grandmother makes. She has a knack for finding the big ones like in your video. They're simmered in a sauce with tons of garlic, bacon, chorizo, onions, etc. Yummmmm. | | | Nice idea, John | Aug 29, 2007 |
Hi, Beautiful shots from Catalonia & the Mediterranean, John. Well done. I am just curious to know which editing program you used to make the video. From Macromedia? Also, I thought I noticed that, unlike Thomas' video, you used a series of photos to create the video, rather than video images (or were they also video images?). I have a video option in my digital Olympus photo camera, which I use every now and then (but it is not so great, actually, cause the format is rather limited), but I like the idea of joining pictures to create a sort of "still photo" video. Later, Ivette P.S.: and yes, the pasta from Thomas looks delicious, and I also like to add ketchup to some things ▲ Collapse | | | John Cutler Spain Local time: 10:03 Spanish to English + ... Hi Ivette, I used Windows Movie Maker to put the photos to music. It gives quite a few options for making a nice slide show and it's quite simple to use. It came as part of the package of Windows applications. If you use Windows, it may even be sitting there on your computer waiting to be discovered. I like it because I tend to take more photos than videos. You can combine effects and even the background music can be changed within the show. (You don't have to use just ... (You don't have to use just one song or piece of music like I did.) Hope it works out for you. I'm no expert, but let me know if you have any other questions. I'll share what I can or maybe someone else reading the thread could give more info. ▲ Collapse

Good tip about Windows Movie Maker! I just checked XP and, indeed, it was right there "sitting" with the rest of Windows XP. Can you believe I had never checked this??? As I said, I am also not much of a video person, but the way video cameras are getting so cheap and so accessible, I will probably get one sooner or later. I just checked XP and, indeed, it was right there "sitting" with the rest of Windows XP. Can you believe I had never checked this??? As I said, I am also not much of a video person, but the way video cameras are getting so cheap and so accessible, I will probably get one sooner or later. I do like to try my hand at all kinds of "artsy" programs. I learned how to design web pages in "raw" HTML code, but never got around to using other more "sophisticated" HTML design programs like the ones from Macromedia or more complicated stuff like CSS or php pages. Lately I am interested in 3D design, but it is also quite complicated. The thing is, sometimes these "artsy hobbies" (not to mention my passion for painting and music mixing) absorb you and you literally spend hours trying new things. But I promise to also try my hand at Windows Movie Maker, so I'll let you know the results (or rather publish them here). Muchos saludos, Ivette P.S.: just edited the message to correct a typo...

Hi Henk, I really liked the one of the Israeli national anthem. The photo in your post is lovely. Very Dutch Now my question is how do you post a photo? I've seen it in some other threads but don't have a clue as to how to do it. | | | Henk Peelen Netherlands Local time: 10:03 Member (2002) German to Dutch + ... Get a free account with Photobucket: http://photobucket.com/ You'll find it easy to upload your photos there. Then you click on the HTML Tag box and past its content here: Nothing spookey about it, isnt it? Another thing is the size of your photos. I don't know which maximum ProZ.com allows, but I'm sure there is one. You could adit your photos easily with picasa: www.picasa.google.com The menus and buttons are quite clear. To reduce the size of a picture, you click "Export" below right. Now you can change the format and put this photo in a different folder. Then you go ahead with photobucket.

John Cutler wrote: Now my question is how do you post a photo? I've seen it in some other threads but don't have a clue as to how to do it. John, I wrote this little table/article that contains info about how to post photos here in the Proz.com forums (see http://www.proz.com/translation-articles/articles/1244/ ), which may come in handy, though maybe Henk's suggestion with the mentioned sites is easier. If you use the system in my table/article, the important thing is to have a host web site where to keep the photos so you can easily link to them. Hi again, John got me so enthusiastic/curious about this video idea that yesterday evening I already managed to create a very basic sort of still photo video with Windows Movie Maker, but when I decided to upload it in YouTube, I noticed the graphic quality decreased, as it seems YouTube must "compress" the video format or something. Any idea about how to avoid this "compressing" when you upload the video? I checked the Help area from YouTube and could not find anything... See more Hi again, John got me so enthusiastic/curious about this video idea that yesterday evening I already managed to create a very basic sort of still photo video with Windows Movie Maker, but when I decided to upload it in YouTube, I noticed the graphic quality decreased, as it seems YouTube must "compress" the video format or something. Any idea about how to avoid this "compressing" when you upload the video? I checked the Help area from YouTube and could not find anything about this. I did realize you have to comply with a given format size and file size, which my video complies with, but don't know if I am selecting the wrong options when uploading the video.... Also, I was not sure about some of the options regarding privacy. For example, it seems you can allow people to freely rate your video or approve their feedback first, or that "other sites can reproduce it" (???). Any comments will be welcome Ivette ▲ Collapse | | | Pages in topic: [1 2 3] > | To report site rules violations or get help, contact a site moderator: You can also contact site staff by submitting a support request » Share your Youtube creation - A translators' Virtual Film Gallery Anycount & Translation Office 3000 | Translation Office 3000
