BEST PRACTICES IN TRANSLATION OF OFFICIAL AND LEGAL DOCUMENTS

(10 PD Points)

Venue: Queensland Multicultural Centre
102 Main Street, Kangaroo Point, QLD 4169

A number of questions and discussions witnessed in AUSIT’s eForums and during networking events have shown that there is a need for standards for written translations of official documents for Australian purposes. Discussions have been ranging from practical questions of how several pages should ideally be bound together and sealed, over the spelling of names with non-English characters, to questions around our profession’s obligation to reduce the possibility of fraud. The “Best practices for the translation of official documents” white paper was developed based on existing NZSTI guidelines and endorsed by AUSIT, in consultation with a number of experienced Australia-based colleagues to meet today’s Australian context. It aims to provide accredited translators with recommendations and guidance on common and accepted practices in the provision of translations for official purposes in Australia. The presentation will be followed by a Q&A session.

Presenter: Susanne Creak has been a NAATI accredited Professional Translator for German English and AUSIT member since 2007. After spending 12 years in corporate environments, she has been working as a freelance professional translator and sub-titler. Her paper on “Best Practices for the Translation of Official Documents” was presented at the 2014 AUSIT Biennial Conference.

Over 40 attendees from AUSIT Oct 7, 2015

I strongly encourage colleagues to sign up now, as there might not be enough places very soon. We have a limited capacity venue and over 40 attendees who RSVP-ed via our Institute already.

This is a great opportunity to meet colleagues and hear about the latest Australian market gossipicon_smile.gif
