Bio

Hello, My name is Yoni Alfandary. I'm from Rehovot (25 km south to Tel Aviv), Israel. My native languages are Hebrew, naturally, and English. My English is from my mother who was raised in the USA. Growing up, she almost exclusively spoke to me in English, and well, that did the trick. I also know Arabic and French. I've studied Arabic first in high school for 6 years. I continued to refine my knowledge during my 3 years of military service. Later on I completed a BA in Arabic Language and Literature in Tel Aviv University. As for my French, it was mandatory in my high school, Alliance, which was sponsored by the De Rothschild family. I've been using it constantly in my work as some of our major clients are French-based. I've been working in the same translation office for over 25 years. Usually when people hear this, I get 1 of 2 reactions: some say "wow" and add that that's pretty rare nowadays; others ask if I am not bored with my job. Well, I started working there almost immediately after the army. The owner of the office is a family friend. The people are nice, the pay is regular and the work is interesting. Besides, I've gathered lots and lots of experience during this work, having worked with really brilliant and knowledgeable people Translation and languages have always been my passion. That's why I've studied Arabic and later on got a diploma in Translation and Translation Editing from TAU. I have a wide general knowledge and I'm a quick-learner. This enables me to cope with a wide variety of topics. But my best quality as a translator is knowing when I don't know something. This means, first of all, that I will not take a job I don't think I can do. And second, if I hit a hard spot in the text, I have the sense to look for more information or ask people who are more knowledgeable than me. In recent years, as the industry changed, I have done freelance work using a variety of online tools and have good understanding and knowledge of these platforms.

I like reading. My favorite genre is Sci-Fi and Fantasy. My favourite authoer is Michael Crichton. I like the way he combines fiction, sciense and techonlogy. From time to time I take a break and read non-fiction books on a variety of issues: linguistics, popular-science etc. I'll be glad to be at your service, Yoni
