Russian to English: Educational probems.
Source text - Russian This kind of problem arises from the time children are in first grade of elementary school. That’s true, isn’t it?
A mother who really loves her son may want to ask his teacher to pay special attention to him, so she may ask the teacher to meet her somewhere in secret out of public view – perhaps she will invite the teacher to lunch or something like that – and as she talks to the teacher, she may say something like,
“I don’t have much money right now, but I think that since my son is in your care, you’ll do your best for him.”
It would be wrong for her to offer the teacher money in this situation, wouldn’t it? But she could just chat with the teacher, building up a friendship for the future. That would be all right, wouldn’t it?
But suppose the mother put some money in her pocket or in a crocodile skin bag, went to the school and handed the money over to the teacher in full view of all the children in her son’s class. The other children would get really mad. And then suppose they find that before long that mother’s son is appointed class leader or is given some special privileges. They would probably remember that boy for as long as they lived, wouldn’t they?
Translation - English Проблемы подобного рода возникают с того времени, как дети идут в первый класс начальной школы. Это ведь на самом деле так, не правда ли?
Мать, искренне любящая своего сына, исполнена желания попросить учителя уделить ему особое внимание, поэтому она может попросить учителя о встрече в удаленном от чужих глаз месте – скажем, пригласить учителя на обед или что-то в этом роде – и в разговоре с учителем она может сказать слова следующего порядка:
«У меня сейчас не очень много денег, но так как теперь мой сын под хорошей опекой, я сделаю для него все, что смогу».
Она совершила бы ошибку, если бы предложила в этой ситуации учителю деньги, не так ли? Но она могла просто поговорить с учителем, подружиться с ним ради будущего. Это было бы вполне не плохо, не так ли?
Но, представьте себе, что мать кладет деньги в свой карман или в обертку от шоколадной плитки, идет в школу и передает эти деньги учителю на виду у всех детей того класса, в котором учиться ее сын. Это ввело бы в ярость других детей. Предположим также, что некоторое время до этого, эта мать была избрана своего рода руководителем этого класса или она наделена определенного рода полномочиями. Они, скорее всего, будут всю оставшуюся жизнь помнить этого ученика, не так ли?
