Cieľom tejto diplomovej práce je vytvoriť databázu anglicko-slovenských ekvivalentných termínov z oblasti socioekonomickej geografie, ktoré sa vyskytujú najmä v stredoškolských učebniciach a analyzovať lingvistické javy vyskytujúce sa v databáze. Práca je rozdelená do siedmych kapitol. Prvá kapitola je venovaná vzťahu lingvistického znaku a mimojazykovej skutočnosti. Druhá kapitola skúma formy lingvistického znaku a vzťahy medzi nimi. Tretia a štvrtá kapitola zahŕňa teoretickú a praktickú časť javov vyskytujúcich sa v analyzovanom korpuse s ohľadom na etymológiu termínov. Tretia kapitola skúma korpus z pohľadu lexikálnej sémantiky, štvrtá skúma slovotvorbu. Piata kapitola je venovaná analýze korpusu z pohľadu etymológie, teda vplyvu iných jazykov na anglický jazyk. Aspekty a techniky prekladu sú analyzované v šiestej kapitole. Posledná, siedma kapitola je venovaná rozboru anglicko-slovenskej terminológie a vlastnej databáze, ktorá je ťažiskom práce. Databáza bola vytvorená s cieľom slúžiť ako pomôcka najmä pre učiteľov geografie bilingválnych stredných škôl a študentov, ale aj pre tých, u ktorých vznikla potreba zaoberať sa geografickou terminológiou v anglickom jazyku, či už z profesného hľadiska alebo z nadšenia. The aim of this diploma thesis is to analyze socio-economic geography terminology from a lexical point of view and compile an English-Slovak database of equivalent terms occuring in the grammar school textbooks in this field. The thesis is divided into seven chapters. The first chapter deals with the analysis of the relation of a linguistic sign and extra-linguistic reality. The second one presents the forms of a linguistic sign with its relations. The third chapter is dedicated to the analysis of the corpus from a lexical semantics point of view, the fourth one is focused on the word-formation issues. The influence of various languages from the view of etymology is illustrated in the fifth chapter. Aspects and techniques of translation are analysed in the sixth chapter. The centre of the thesis, the English-Slovak terminology research and the database itself, is described in the last, seventh, chapter. The purpose of the database was to help not only teachers of Geography who teach at bilingual grammar schools, but also those who deal with the geographic terminology as professionals or as enthusiasts.
