Efeitos negativos sobre as árvores com ciclo de vida longo são de difícil observação, mas indivíduos em estágios iniciais de vida, tais como as plântulas, parecem apresentar as respostas mais intensas e imediatas à alteração da floresta, o que poderá afetar a futura composição da comunidade vegetal. Além destes, o efeito de borda pode causar também mudanças na composição dos nutrientes do solo, além de possibilitar a introdução indesejável de sementes dispersas pelo vento no interior dos fragmentos.

Com o tempo, em florestas úmidas, a borda é selada pela vegetação que ali se estabelece, porém, a reconstituição da vegetação da borda nos mesmos padrões estruturais da floresta original parece improvável de ocorrer, pois as modificações iniciais no microclima em função da borda criam condições para o estabelecimento de espécies diferentes daquelas que ali se encontravam. O ambiente torna-se propício às espécies mais adaptadas à maior incidência de luz (pioneiras, lianas, etc) em detrimento das espécies tolerantes ao sombreamento (climáxicas), o que pode resultar em uma comunidade vegetal na borda distinta daquela do interior do fragmento. Embora o aumento da densidade de espécies pioneiras possa dar a falsa impressão da inexistência de efeitos negativos, é essencial observar que a identidade dessas espécies difere daquelas do interior do fragmento.

The negative effects on trees with long life cycles are difficult to see, but those in the early stages of life, such as seedlings, seem to display the most intense and immediate responses to the changing forest, which may affect the future composition of the plant community. Apart from these, the edge effect can also cause changes to the composition of soil nutrients, in addition to enabling the undesirable introduction of seeds dispersed within the habitat fragment by the wind.

Over time, in rainforests, the edges are sealed by vegetation that has settled there; however, it is unlikely that the restoration of the vegetation along the edge will match the structural patterns of the original forest, since the initial changes in the microclimate, due to the edge effect, create the conditions for establishing species different from those that were previously found there. The environment becomes conducive to the species most adapted to a higher incidence of light (pioneer species, lianas, etc) at the expense of shade-tolerant species (climax vegetation), which can result in a plant community on the fragment’s edge that is different from that of the interior. While the increased density of pioneer species may falsely imply the inexistence of negative effects, it is essential to note that the identity of these species differs from that of the fragment interior.

Nesta seção apresentaremos o mecanismo criado para coletar, processar, armazenar e exibir eventos do sistema-alvo de forma clara e controlada. Este mecanismo tem por objetivo capturar eventos do sistema que contenham, além de uma tradicional mensagem de log, um conjunto de propriedades contextuais. Estas propriedades são utilizadas pelas camadas de mais alto nível para auxiliar a compreensão do evento, como por exemplo indicando quando ele ocorreu, em qual componente, disparado por qual aplicação, sob quais circunstâncias, etc.

Além disso, com base nestas propriedades o mecanismo é capaz de inferir outras, que muitas vezes são até difícies de serem descobertas durante a emissão do evento, pois ela pode representar uma relação entre diferentes componentes, que o trecho de código de onde ela é emitida pode não ter acesso ao outro componente para inferí-la.

Em seguida estes eventos são informados a um oráculo, que os persiste em um banco de dados, e fornece mecanismos para responder a requisições específicas da camada superior, como por exemplo uma busca pelos eventos gerados por um componente conhecido, de uma aplicação específica, em um determinado intervalo de tempo.

A partir deste mecanismo criamos uma ferramenta para axiliar a execução de cada uma destas etapas apresentadas. Esta ferramenta foi implementada como um sistema multi-agentes a fim de auxiliar a coleta de eventos de um sistema espalhado em diferentes máquinas. Na Figura 2 apresentamos a arquitetura desta ferramenta.

De forma resumida, os agentes coletores são a ponte entre o sistema-alvo e a nossa ferramenta. Cada um destes agentes monitora uma parte do sistema-alvo e notifica cada evento que ocorra na sua região de monitoramento a um agente centralizador, que procede com a sua interpretação e o encaminha para um terceiro agente, responsável pela inferência de novas propriedades. O evento resultante da inferência é enviado para o agente oráculo, que funciona como uma base de dados, e responde aos agentes de visualização, que são configurados pelo usuário com os interesses de cada visão.

In this section, we present the mechanism created to collect, process, store and exhibit target system events in a clear and controlled manner. This mechanism aims to capture system events that contain, in addition to a traditional log message, a set of contextual properties. These properties are used by the highest layer to aid in understanding the event, such as indicating when it occurred, in which component, triggered by which application, under what circumstances, etc.

Furthermore, based on these properties, the mechanism is able to infer others, which are often difficult to discover during the occurrence of the event, because it can depict a relationship between different components, that the piece of code from where it originates may not have access to the other component to infer it.

Subsequently, these events are reported to an oracle agent, which stores them in a database, and provides mechanisms to respond to specific requests from the upper layer, such as a search for the events generated by a known component of a specific application, in a given time interval.

Based on this mechanism, we have created a tool to help implement each of the stages presented here. This tool was implemented as a multi-agent system to aid in collecting events from a system distributed onto different machines. Figure 2 demonstrates the architecture of this tool.

To summarize, the collection agents are the link between the target system and our tool. Each one of these agents monitors a portion of the target system and notifies a centralized agent of each event that occurs in its region of monitoring, which then proceeds with its interpretation and forwards it to a third agent that is responsible for the inference of new properties. The event resulting from the inference is sent to the oracle agent, which acts as a database, and responds to the visualization agents, which are configured by the user with interests in each vision.
