Source text - English Global cod catch has suffered a 70 per cent drop over the last 30 years, and the Barents Sea cod stock is now the world's largest remaining cod stock. The stock is relatively well-managed, and supports an annual legal catch of almost half a million tons. However, this valuable stock is now threatened by illegal fishing as one out of xxxx cod caught is caught illegally.
A report by WWF-Russia and several reports from the Norwegian Coast Guard estimate that about 100,000 tons of cod is fished illegally from the Barents Sea every year.
Samantha Smith said: "We hope to meet with major frozen food companies to investigate the level of illegal fish caught and sold to consumers on the European market. This is a story of large and very well-organized networks stealing cod in enormous quantities."
WWF asks for:
1) More control of fishing vessels operating in national and international waters
2) EU must take responsibility to improve its harbour control in order to stop landings of illegal fish
3) Countries with vessels caught fishing illegally in international waters must make sure the offenders are taken to court and prevented from fishing illegally again.
4) Supermarkets should buy fish from legal and sustainable fisheries.
Translation - Swedish De globala torskfångsterna har minskat med 70 procent de senaste 30 åren och Barents havs torskbestånd är nu världens största återstående torskbestånd. Beståndet är relativt väl underhållet och stödjer ett årligt lagligt fiske av nästan en halv miljon ton. Men dethär värdefulla beståndet är nu hotat av tjuvfiske, då en av xxxx torskar fiskas illegalt.
En rapport gjord av den ryska världsnaturfonden och flera rapporter från den norska kustbevakningen visar att runt 100 000 ton torsk fiskas olagligt i Barents hav varje år.
Samantha Smith säger att: ”Vi hoppas att kunna samla de största kedjorna som handlar med frysta produkter för att undersöka nivån av illegalt fångad fisk som säljs till konsumenter på den europeiska marknaden. Detta är en affär med stora och väldigt välorganiserade nätverk som stjäl torsk i enorma mängder”.
WWF efterfrågar:
1) Större kontroll av fiskefartyg som verkar på nationella och internationella vatten.
2) EU måste ta ansvaret att förbättra hamnkontrollen med avsikt att stoppa lossning av illegalt fångad fisk.
3) Länder med fartyg som gripits för tjuvfiske på internationellt vatten måste se till att de anklagade ställs inför rätta och att de hindras från att fiska olagligt igen.
4) Varuhandeln skall köpa fisk från lagliga och stabila fiskeleverantörer.

I am a positive person who grew up in Gothenburg, who has tried a number of occupations over the years. The last 15 years have been in the restaurant business, part time working during studies and fulltime otherwise. The English language has been something important in my life since Sweden became a part of the European Union. I decided then that I needed to learn the language properly (in school, I studied English from the age of nine). Therefore, I moved to London May -97 and stayed there until April -01. During these four years I learned to love the language. I then studied English and Swedish at the university in Gothenburg and after that a translation course at Stockholm University. Now I have started my own company as a freelance translator.
