In Indonesia, just like in other countries, the public’s lifestyle is heavily influenced by mass media, both electronic and print, because almost every day we listen to radio, watch television, and read news papers and magazines. Inevitably, our opinions and thoughts are heavily influenced by news that we receive from those sources. Media has two functions; to inform and to entertain. In Indonesia, people who are thirsty for news and entertainment can choose from a variety of sources.

These trading phenomena need to be further analysed, particularly regarding the implications that may possibly be faced by all nations who are involved in these types of free trade. The FTA that is being discussed between the ASEAN and EU (ASEAN EU FTA) will bring significant obstacles to the nations in the Region, particularly due to the two regions’ distinctive characteristics, where the EU is a group of developed nations while on the other hand in the ASEAN region, there are still many developing countries that have domestic economy problems that are more complex than economically stable nations. Several studies (see Chandra 2007, Robles 2006) indicate that the ASEAN-EU FTA will in fact deepen the imbalance in the economic relationship between those two regions.
