Source text - English Where do new ideas come from? What psychological mechanisms underlie
creative insight? This fundamental issue in the study of thought has
received a great deal of informal discussion, but little empirical psychological
investigation. The anecdotal reports of creative scientists and mathematicians
suggest that the development of a new theory frequently depends on
noticing and applying an analogy drawn from a different domain of
knowledge. . . . The hydraulic model of the blood circulation system, the
planetary model of atomic structure, and the "billiard ball" model of gases
all represent major scientific theories founded on analogies.
While the process of solving analogy test items of the form A:B::C:D
has been studied quite extensively (Sternberg, 1977a, 1977b), there has
been little experimental investigation of analogical thinking in more
complex problem-solving tasks. Some studies have examined transfer
between homomorphic or isomorphic versions of puzzle problems, such as
the "missionaries and cannibals" (Reed, Ernst, & Banerji, 1974) and
Tower of Hanoi (Hayes & Simon, 1977) puzzles. These are relatively
"well-defined" problems . . . in which the initial conditions, legal operations,
and goal state are explicitly specified. In contrast, anecdotal reports
of the use of analogies typically involve problems that are much less well
defined. The present study was designed to investigate the use of analogies
between disparate domains as a guide to finding solutions for an ill-defined
problem.

Translation - English The current research deals with the relationship between 'Religion' and 'Law' in modern Jewish thought, comparing its conception in Hermann Cohen's and Franz Rosenzweig's philosophies of religion in light of Sigmund Freud's study of religion. Cohen's Religion der Vernunft aus den Quellen des Judentums and Rosenzweig's Der Stern der Erlösung present a novel and unique understanding of Judaism and the function of law and Mitzvah in it, based on their vigorous and critical discourse with the tradition of general philosophy and German philosophy and culture in particular, as well as on their intensive study of Jewish literature and way of life. Cohen's conception of Judaism as a Religion of Reason, with a rational-moral law pulsating through it, is formulated through a continuous discourse with Kant's philosophy of ethics and religion. It is inspired by it, it criticizes it and it even seeks to rectify it with the aid of Jewish traditional sources, the lore of the prophets in particular. Rosenzweig in Der Stern criticizes earlier unitary Idealistic philosophical approaches, that of Hegel in particular, integrating a philosophical method with a theological approach to create a form of existentialism in which the true status of man is formed of the experience of revelation and the commandment of love which resonates through it.

Translation - English One of the most enriching, stimulating and thought provoking experiences is the experience of listening to a musical masterpiece, to the genre of music which is nowadays called "Classical Music". The wide variety, however, leaves the beginning listener baffled before an endless range of CD's unable to distinguish between the good and the worse. Frequently, this feeling of helplessness convinces us to give up and swim back to the safe bank of the river. This article is for the daring adventurer who nevertheless wishes to delve himself in the musical treasury of humanity.
For starters, let's fix a common mistake. Classical music cannot be defined as one style of music. What is commonly called classical music defines all the music that was composed in the western world in the last 1000 years. If we take in account, that in the last century alone there were ten different major musical styles in Western Europe only, we can deduce that what we call classical music is much more than one style, form or mood. Most of us know the popular classical pieces, whether from ringtones or from Bugs Bunny cartoons, but there's a whole world of unknown music, waiting to be discovered. How many of us are acquainted with the American jazz composers of the beginning of the 20th century or the unique, rhythmic, music of 16th century Guatamala? The styles of classical music are so varied, that anyone can find his own path into this world. In the words of conductor and teacher Richard Zander: "Everybody likes classical music, they just don’t know it yet!".
