Source text - English The sources of EMF and loading can be combined into polyphase circuits. In general, to provide an adequate phase difference ratio during connection or circuit joining it is necessary to define the terminals of the elements meeting the conditions (1). They are called the beginning and the end of the source phase or loading phase. As for the sources of a polyphase circuit, the direction of the EMF action from the beginning to the end is taken as positive.

Source text - English If necessary, the beginning and the end are designated with the Latin letters on electrical diagrams. Figure 1 a) shows that the beginnings of the elements correspond to the indices XYZ, whereas the ends – as ABC. Further on, lowercase letters will be used to designate loadings, and capital letters – the sources of EMF.
There are two methods of the elements’ joining into a polyphase circuit: Y-connection and mesh connection. A Y-connection is the one where the beginnings of all elements are combined in one node called "star point”.
