Minns dina tre lyckligaste ögonblick...
För de flesta av oss har sådana ögonblick med relationer att göra – barn, kärlek, vänskap. Ett nytt jobb eller ett väl utfört projekt kan skapa stor glädje, men sällan är det inkomsten eller köp av konsumtionsvaror som människor tänker på när de får frågan ovan. Ändå har vi sedan 70-talet valt att ensidigt utveckla Sverige mot just målet om ökad köpkraft. Hela samhällets uppfinningsrikedom och produktivitetsökning har satsats på att förlänga köplustens långa arm snarare än att förkorta arbetstiden. Kanske bottnar motståndet mot arbetstidsförkortning i vårt nuvarande ekonomiska system som ensidigt satsar på tillväxt, kanske kan kortare arbetstid även vara början på vägen mot en mer hållbar, solidarisk och demokratisk ekonomisk utveckling.
Vår civilisation lider av resursbrist och ökad kamp om sinande naturresurser, vi människor lider av tidsbrist och tilltagande konkurrens om kvarvarande arbetstillfällen. Klimatarbetet ses av många som börda och ansträngning, trots att minskad stress och kortare arbetstid sannolikt utgör en väsentlig del av lösningen.
Kortare arbetstid ger oss mer fritid och mindre utsläpp, fler jobb och mindre stress, mer tid för varandra och demokratin. 40 timmarsveckan är inte det elfte budordet hugget i sten utan en siffra i en alldeles vanlig lag, som vi alldeles vanliga människor kan ändra på. Låt oss göra det!

For most of us, these kinds of moments have something to do with relationships – children, love or friendship. A new job or a project well done can bring great pleasure, but people rarely think of income or purchases of consumer goods when they are asked the above question. Nevertheless, since the ‘70s, we have chosen to develop Sweden towards the goal of increasing purchasing power. All of society’s resourcefulness and growing productivity has been invested in increasing the desire and inclination to buy rather than shortening working hours. Perhaps the resistance to shorter working hours is the result of our current economic system, a system which persistently devotes itself to growth; perhaps too, shorter working hours can be the beginning of the road leading to more sustainable, supportive and democratic economic development.
Our civilisation suffers from a lack of resources and increased competition for dwindling natural resources. We, as people, are experiencing constraints on our time and increasing competition for the remaining jobs. Many people see the challenge of taking action for the climate as burdensome and demanding in spite of the fact that a significant part of the solution probably means less stress and shorter working hours.
Shorter working hours give us more spare time and fewer emissions, more jobs and less stress, more time for one another and for democracy. The forty-hour week is not the eleventh commandment chiselled into stone but a number in an absolutely ordinary law, which we, completely ordinary people, can change. Let’s do it!

Landskapet är orubbligt, och oavlåtligt föränderligt. Havets alla faser från bleke till full storm, det har ingen färg och alla färger – tidvattnet ritar oavlåtligt om konturerna av klippor och skär, strandlinjer. Också ljuset över havet och fjällen skiftar, minut för minut – med vädrets växlingar och årstidernas. Allt skiftar, inte sällan dramatiskt, medan folk lever sina liv i det. Men under dessa rastlösa förvandlingar finns en ofantlig stillhet, en geologisk stillhet, efter de våldsamma rörelser i jordskorpan som en gång bröt upp det som nu kallas Lofotväggen. Det är den stillheten hon målar och har målat, dess avläsbara uttryck i väder, ljus, atmosfärer. Och det finns något nästan paradoxalt i hennes sätt att måla den: med ett slags otålighet. Betraktade på nära håll är hennes bildytor oroliga. Den torkade oljefärgen har överallt spår av häftiga rörelser, penselstråken är på väg åt alla håll. Naturligtvis har det med bildernas faktiska tillkomst att göra, det har handlat om att få måleriskt grepp om en syn, att rekonstruera den hastigt passerande synen, ögonblicket av ljus, det atmosfäriska läget – det skapande ögonblickets sanning. Men de våldsamma rörelserna i den stillnade färgen förefaller att också ha något med själva geologin att göra: krafterna som har format landskapet självt och som går igen i penselns rörelser, vallarna av färg, den framskrapade duken, ett stort minne. Det pågår ett slags sammansmältning i hennes bilder, av landskapets sätt att formulera sig och människans, en vacker åtbörd av tillhörighet, en erfarenhet av landskapets villkor, som i en strof av Tomas Tranströmer:
Marken är sträv, ingen spegel.
Bara de grövsta andarna
kan spegla sig där: Månen
och Istiden.
Månen och istiden – havet och fjällen, de grövsta andarnas spår i landskapet. Och människan som betraktar dem.

The landscape is unflinching, yet ceaselessly changeable. The sea in its every form, from dead calm to raging storm, has no colour and every colour – the tides continuously rewrite the contours of the cliffs and islands, the coastal lines. And the light across the sea and the mountains shifts, minute by minute, with the changes in the weather and the seasons. Everything shifts, not seldom dramatically, while the people go on living their lives within. Yet during these restless transformations there is an immense stillness, a geological stillness, following the violent rumbles in the earth’s crust which once broke up what is now called the Lofoten Wall It is this stillness she paints and has painted. Its legible expression through weather, light, atmosphere. And there is something almost paradoxical about her method of painting it: with a kind of impatience. Viewed up close the surfaces of her paintings are tumultuous. Everywhere, the dried oil paint has the signs of violent gestures, the brushstrokes test out every direction. Of course this comes from the painting’s actual creation, the act of capturing a view, reconstructing the momentary scene, the instant of light, the mood – the truth of the creative instant. However the vehement movements in the stiffened paint evoke the actual geology: the forces which have formed the landscape itself, and which echo through the brushstrokes, the mantle of paint, the scratched canvas, a deep memory. There is a sort of amalgamation taking place in her pictures – of the expression of the landscape and the expression of its people, a beautiful gesture of belonging, a knowledge of the stipulations of the land, like in a stanza from Tomas Tranströmer:
The ground is rough, no mirror
Only the coarsest of spirits
Can reflect themselves there: the Moon
And the Ice Age.
The Moon and the Ice Age; the sea and the mountains, vestiges of the coarsest of spirits in the landscape. And the person observing them.
