General information Working with engines and the necessary service products does not pose any problems provided the people entrusted with operation, maintenance and care have been trained accordingly and actively keep their minds on job. This survey presents a summary of the important regulations listed according to major topics. The intention is to provide a knowledge needed to avoid accidents which could lead to injury, damage and environmental pollution. Additional information is given in the operator`s manual for the engine. Important: Accidents may happen in spite of all precautionary measures having been taken. In such an eventuality, obtain immediate medical assistance from a doctor. This is particularly important if the accident involves skin contact with corrosive acid, fuel penetration under the skin, scalding by hot oil, antifreeze spraying into eyes, etc. 1. Regulations for preventing accidents leading to injury to personnel 1.1. During commissioning, starting and operation: Read the operator`s manual carefully before taking the engine into operation and familiarize yourself with the „critical points”. Only authorized personnel are permitted to start and operate an engine. Do not touch an engine with your bare hands when it is at operating temperature. Keep the area around the engine as well as any ladders and stairways free of oil and grease. Accidents caused by slipping can have very serious consequences. Caution! Gas pipes and reservoirs are under high pressure, max. 200 bar. Do not perform maintenance work unless the engine is stopped. Prevent the vehicle from rolling away. Support the frame when working on the pneumatic or spring suspension system. Change the oil with the engine at operating temperature. Do not touch oil drain plugs and oil filters with your bare hands.
