Source text - English By examining offset wellbores, historical field studies, or previous LOT/FIT tests, the maximum equivalent circulating density (ECD) that can be used while drilling a particular interval can be determined. The maximum ECD is a combination of mud weight and the dynamic ECD that is caused by the frictional losses necessary to pump the fluid in and out of the hole at a given rate. The maximum drilling fluid density is defined as the highest pre-fracture pressure (expressed as density) which can be established in the open hole that does not result in either fractured formation and/or lost circulation.
