While antibiotics have had incredible benefits for society and world health, their overuse and misuse have allowed for antibiotic resistant bacteria to develop. Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, also known as MRSA, is one such bacterium. MRSA, which isn't very different from other staph bacteria, is resistant to the antibiotic methicillin (and in some cases other antibiotics as well), and this can lead to fatal infection. As a result, stronger antibiotics must be used to try to fight the infection.

Source text - English Genetic engineering is a new biotechnology used to maximize yields. Many genetically engineered genes from another organism are added into the genes of the target crop. A commonly engineered crop is corn, a staple in most of the world. One such type of corn is known as Bt. Bt stands for Bacillus thuringiensis, a soil bacterium. A gene from the bacteria is inserted into corn to create a toxin that affects moth and butterfly larvae, particularly the European corn borer. The resistance to this larva decreases the crop damage from this pest greatly increasing the crop yield. However, like selective breeding there are risks that are associated with genetically modified organisms (GMOs). For example, in some cases both humans and animals that live near or have ingested Bt corn have had cases of allergic reactions including rashes and sores. There has also been some data to suggest that GMO foods have lead to an increase in food intolerance.
