Pendidikan Harus Sesuai dengan Kebutuhan Bangsa

Kurikulum Pendidikan suatau bangsa semestinya terkait dan selaras dengan arah pembangunan nasional. Saat ini, arah pembangunan nasional tidak jelas sehingga arah kurikulum pendidikan untuk mencetak manusia unggul juga tidak jelas.

"Perjelas dulu arah pembangunan bangsa. Setelah itu baru dijabarkan dalam kurikulum dan metode penjabarannya,' kata praktisi pendidikan dari Universitas Paramadina, Muhammad Abduhzen, Senin (3/9) di Jakarta.

Tanpa kejelasan arah pembangunan bangsa, kurikulum pendidikan menjadi kabur, bisa dijejali dengan berbagai materi pelajaran yang tidak penting bahkan bisa disisipi kepentingan politik sesaat. "Padahal seharusnya kurikulum pendidikan untuk kemajuan bangsa. Tak boleh ada kepentingan politik," kata Abduhzen menanggapi langkah pemerintah yang sedang mengevaluasi kurikulum pendidikan jenjang SD, SMP dan SMA.

Menteri Pendidikan dan Kebudayaan Muhamad Nuh menilai jumlah 17 mata pelajaran di SMA terlalu banyak. Karena itu terbuka kemungkinan beberapa mata pelajaran digabung atau dipadatkan, bahkan sebagian materi lain dihapus. Selain itu, jam pelajaran per minggu sedang dikaji untuk ditambah.

Nuh juga menyoroti rendahnya minat siswa dan mahasiswa pada bidang sains dan teknologi. Saat ini, jumlah mahasiswa pada bidang sains dan teknologi hanya sekitar 11 persen."Padahal untuk negara yang sedang berkembang, minimal 22 persen dari jumlah mahasiswa,'katanya.

Terlalu banyak

Guru Besar (Emeritus) Ilmu Pendidikan Universitas Negeri Jakarta HAR Tilaar mengatakan, kurikulum yang berlaku saat ini perlu disederhanakan karena mata pelajaran yang diberikan kepada siswa terlalu banyak. Pendidikan dasar seharusnya dipusatkan pada baca, tulis, hitung ditambah Pendidikan Kewarganegaraan, Bahasa Indonesia, bahasa daerah dan khusus di daerah tertentu ditambah dengan bahasa Inggris.

Di jenjang SMA/SMK barulah materi ditambah dengan sejarah dunia dan ketrampilan dasar abad 21, seperti komputer. "Murid dirangsang untuk belajar sendiri, sedangkan guru memfasilitasi,"ujarnya.

Korelasi dengan potensi

Abduhzen mengingatkan bangsa ini memiliki potensi di bidang pertanian, perikanan, dan mengarah ke industri. Semestinya pendidikan mendukung dan berkorelasi dengan potensi itu.

"Kenyataannya, pertanian tidak menjadi basis perekonomian. Bangsa kita tidak menggarap serius sektor pertanian dalam pembangunan bangsa,"ungkapnya. "Akibatnya, petani menyekolahkan anak-anaknya agar jangan menjadi petani seperti bapaknya,"ujarnya.


Direktur Jenderal Pendidikan Dasar Kemdikbud Suyanto menambahkan, kurikulum yang sedang dievaluasi terutama menyangkut materi pelajaran yang terlalu banyak. Disisi lain, kurikulum revisi nantinya harus bisa menjawab berbagai persoalan bangsa.

The curriculum of a nation shall be related and aligned to direction of national development. To date, the direction of national development is unclear so that the direction of the educational curriculum to produce excellent human beings is blurred.

“Make crystal clear to direction of national development. Then, it can be elaborated in the curriculum and methods of teaching,” said the educational practitioner of Paramadina University, Muhammad Abduhzen, Monday (3/9) in Jakarta.

With the absence of clear direction of national development, educational curriculum is vague; it can be cramped with a number of trivial teaching materials, much more it can be interspersed with instant political interests. “On the other hand, we know that educational curriculum is for the progress of that nation. No political interest is admitted,” said Abduhzen commenting on the government’s steps now in the process of evaluating educational curriculum at primary schools as well as junior and senior secondary schools (SD, SMP and SMA).

The Minister of National Education and Culture, Mohamad Nuh, considered that 17 (seventeen) subjects at senior secondary schools is too many. Therefore, it is probable that some subjects will be combined and pressed, even parts of material can be deleted. Also, the increase of learning hours per week is being discussed.

Nuh also expressed concerns on the low interest of students for science and technology. Nowadays, the number of science and technology students is only around 11 percent. “ The ideal for a developing country is minimal 22% of the total number of students,” he said.

Too many

The (emeritus) professor of Education Science of Jakarta State University said the existing curriculum needs to be simplified as subjects taught are too many. Basic education shall be focused on reading-writing and math, plus civic education, Indonesian language, vernacular language and, in some selected regions, English classes can be added.

At SMA/SMK (senior vocational schools) the material can be added up with the world history and the 21st basic skills such as computer. “Students are stimulated to learn by themselves, whereas teachers act as facilitators,” he said

Correlation with potentiality

Abduhzen reminded that this nation has potential in agriculture, fisheries, and also heading towards industries. Education should correlate to these three components.

“In practice, agriculture does not serve as economic basis. Our nation does not seriously cultivate the agricultural sector in the context of national development,” he said. “The result is that farmers send their children to school to avoid being farmers like their parents,” he said.

The Director General for Basic Education of MOEC, Suyanto, added that curriculum is being evaluated, in particular related to its excessive number. Furthermore, the revised curriculum is expected to respond to different problems of the nation. (LUK)
