King Rukmaìgada makes all the
citizens observe Ekädaçé, from the
Viñëu Puräëa
Next, to illustrate the efficacy of observing the vow of Ekädaçé, Süta
Gosvämé narrated the following story to the sages at Naimiñäraëya.
Once, there lived a king named Rukmaìgada, who was
endowed with the good qualities of patience and forgiveness.He was
a devotee of Lord Vishnu, who lies on the Milk Ocean, and he was a
strict follower of the Ekädaçé vow. In fact, on Ekädaçé, the king had
his servants mount a drum on an elephant and while beating it, they
announced throughout the land, “If anyone more than eight years of
age and less than eighty-five partakes of food on this day of Lord
Vishnu, he will be either killed or banished from the kingdom, even if
he or she is my father, brother, son, wife, or friend. Indeed, the
person who eats on this day will be punished just like a robber. Today,
give charity to the brahmans and bathe in the Gangä.”
Translation - English अद्ध्याय चौबीस
विष्णु पुराण में, राजा रुक्मंगादा सभी नागरिकों को एकादशी का अवलोकन करने के लिए प्रेरित करते है|
आगे, एकादशी के व्रत की प्रभावकारिता का वर्णन करने के लिए , सूत गोस्वामी ने नैमिसरान्य में मुनियों को निम्नलिखित कहानी सुनाई|
एक बार, यहाँ एक रुक्मंगादा नामक राजा रहता था, जो धैर्य और क्षमा के अच्छे गुणों से संपन्न था| वह प्रभु विष्णु का भक्त था, जो दूध के महासागर पर लेटते हैं और वह एकादशी व्रत का एक सख्त अनुयायी था| वास्तव में, एकादशी पर, राजा के दासों ने एक हाथी पर एक नगाड़ा चढाया और इसको पीटते हुए, उन्होंने देश भर में घोषणा की, "यदि आठ वर्ष की आयु से अधिक और ८५ से कम किसी भी व्यक्ति ने प्रभु विष्णु के इस दिन पर भोजन ग्रहण किया, फिर यदि वह मेरे पिता, भाई, पुत्र, पत्नी, या मित्र हुआ तब भी , वह या तो मारा जाएगा या राज्य से भगा दिया जायेगा| वास्तव में, वह व्यक्ति जिसने इस दिन खाया उसे एक लुटेरे के भांति ही दण्डित किया जाएगा| आज, ब्राह्मणों को दान दे और गंगा में स्नान करें|"
