Bio
Why translation?

Quite simply because I love words, finding the right word, the exact phrase, to convey the same meaning in a different language. I enjoy the challenge of translating, of doing the research needed and the satisfaction of a job well done.

Why me?

I'm serious about my work, professional, reliable and my clients are important to me. I only accept work where I know I can return a quality translation.

Specialisation

Environment - ecology

This has long been an area of personal interest which grew out of working with plants and concerns about pollution and climate change. To develop this to a professional level I have recently completed a number of online courses including 'Sustainable Development' (University of Nottingham) and 'Ocean Solutions' (University of Western Australia). I am currently working on 'Climate Change' (University of Melbourne) and 'Organic Solar Cells' (Technical University of Denmark).

IT - computing

I have recently completed the translation of a series of software contracts covering both end-user licences and support and maintenance. In addition, following an Open University (UK) course in 2008 I have been working in partnership with a French IT service provider.

Building - property - renovation

Initial professional experience in the UK working in the marketing department of a major house-builder with residential projects in Great Britain and holiday developments in Corsica and Portugal gave me a solid grounding in the world of property development, building and tourism.

Later, working with a property surveyor in France allowed me to acquire the equivalent vocabulary in French.

Botany - horticulture - gardening
In 1995 I created a specialist plant nursery in south-west France building on knowledge acquired as a passionate amateur gardener in the UK. I later became a member of the 'Association des Pépiniéristes Collectionneurs', French national collection holder for hosta cultivars and in 2005 published the only French book on hostas.

Tourism
Time spent with my parents-in-law who were hoteliers in Guernsey (Channel Islands) and working in the marketing department of a company who built holiday villas in Corsica gave me the knowledge and vocabulary to undertake translations in this field.

Cookery
A purely personal passion, with a technical vocabulary provided by my father-in-law who was the head chef in his own hotel.
