Source text - Japanese
Translation - English The method to palpate abdominal patterns is to first lay the patient supine and make his mind qi right. Then the physician must also sit upright and control his breathing, while focusing his mind qi on his subumbilical region. It is similar to a samurai warrior who takes his sword to prepare to face an enemy. He must be free from the fear of serious illnesses. He must not be blinded by life or death. He must not succumb to riches or nobility. He must not scorn the poor or those of low rank. The physician must perform examinations while keeping his mind focused on the goal of curing the disease and of removing suffering. This is the great method of physicians to examine patients.
