Translation - English The Horsman as an Inspiration of History and Art
The last section of the exhibition is dedicated to the large variety of cultural manifestations that have emerged from the existence of the horsemen and the art of equestrianism in America. History and literature describe figures of heroism, battles and scenes of rural life of the people of the Americas, particularly the historical chronicles and works since the sixteenth century, as the poems La Araucana (1569), Grandeza Mexicana (1604) and Martín Fierro (1872) and the costumbrist novels of the nineteenth century.
The fine arts of the American countries have left us with paintings, portraits and sculptures of heroes that fought in the wars of independence on horseback, of leaders, reformists and revolutionaries, as well as scenes of the rural life of our immense geography.
The folk arts and the marvelous hands of artisans have blessed the art of equestrianism with true masterpieces of a variety of textures and materials, from leather, silver, gold, bone, ivory, clay, papier-maché, vegetal fibers, wool and many more, reflecting the common origins and the rich colors and designs of the population of the New World.
Music and dance have accompanied the horsemen in their long trajectories through the landscape, creating popular songs as Alma Llanera, El Jinete, José Antonio, which are classics of American music. The art of dance gives us examples of traditional dances as La Marinera in Peru, El Gato in The Pampas, Jarabe tapatío in which the rural Charro's and China's (Charro's and China's Poblanas) dance the national Mexican dance with excellence, or the Chilean Cueca, that delights the days of the Huaso's of the countryside. Photography and cinema have captured the characteristics of the eight horsemen that have managed to become representatives of their respective nations or regions of the New World, as the Gaucho for Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay and Brazil and the Huaso for Chile.
Finally, we, the people of the Americas, are twinned by an art of equestrianism that originates all the way from the Berbers of Northern Africa, and which still evokes a unity and hospitality and a mutual service to one another.
