No entanto, a história e a arquitetura locais valeram bem o sacrifício e o suor.

The roads of Elvas and Vila Vicosa, the national circumnavigation that I toured yesterday with a thousand euros in my pocket, had been deserted due to the heat. Nevertheless, the local history and arquitecture were really worth the sweat and the sacrifice.
“Oh Elvas, Oh Elvas, Badajoz is within sight’’. Paco Bandeira, son of the city belonging to the district of Portalegre, abridged in the perfect part of the essence of that what is often named “Rainha da Fronteira” (Queen of the Frontier). It was there that I spent various hours of my day and, as a matter of fact, the tracks that unites it to the Spanish locality are visible (and audible), more so because it is separated only by eight kilometers from its Iberian neighbours.
There are similar projects that aim at unifying the two urbes by 2020, giving origen to the eurocity Elvas-Badajoz, a center in which will reside 250 thousand people. Much optimistic estimates aim at the partnership permitting to accommodate 750 thousand citizens in which will be designated per capita of the metropolitan area of Elvas-Badajoz and of the region of Extream Alentejo, by 2050.
A series of new infrastructure has emerged in the locality, but, above all on the internet – the blogosphere is a good place of debate on several topics. There are already those who rise against the idea, owing to the possibility of dislocation of public services, workers and of capitals to the other side of the frontier.
