"Do you mind if I ask you what happened to Tracy?" Millicent said.
Louise laughed a little uneasily. "Well, you know how girls are. They notice little things. I mean, some of
them thought Tracy was just
a bit too different. Maybe you could suggest a few things to her."
"Like what?"
"Oh, like maybe not wearing knee socks to school, or carrying that old bookbag. I know it doesn't sound
like much, but well, it's things like that which set someone apart. I mean, you know that no girl at Lansing would
be seen dead wearing knee socks, no matter how cold it gets, and it's kiddish and kind of green to carry a
bookbag."
"I guess so," Millicent said.
"About tomorrow," Louise went on. "You've drawn Beverly Mitchell for a big sister. I wanted to warn you
that she's the toughest, but if you get through all right it'll be all the more credit for you."
"Thanks, Lou," Millicent said gratefully, thinking, this is beginning to sound serious. Worse than a loyalty
test, this grilling over the coals. What's it supposed to prove anyway? That I can take orders without flinching? Or
does it just make them feel good to see us run around at their beck and call?
“All you have to do really," Louise said, spooning up the last of her sundae, "is be very meek and obedient
when you're with Bev and do just what she tells you. Don't laugh or talk back or try to be funny, or she'll just
make it harder for you, and believe me, she's a great one for doing that. Be at her house at seven-thirty."
And she was. She rang the bell and sat down on the steps to wait for Bev. After a few minutes the front
door opened and Bev was standing there, her face serious.
"Get up, gopher," Bev ordered.
There was something about her tone that annoyed Millicent. It was almost malicious. And there was an
unpleasant anonymity about the label "gopher," even if that was what they always called the girls being initiated.
It was degrading, like being given a number. It was a denial of individuality. [...]

Louise tertawa sedikit gelisah. “Yah, kau tahu bagaimana mereka itu. Mereka memperhatikan hal-hal
kecil. Maksudku, beberapa dari mereka berpikir Tracy hanya agak terlalu berbeda. Mungkin kau bisa beri
sedikit usulan kepadanya.”
“Usulan seperti apa?”
“Oh, seperti jangan memakai kaos kaki selutut ke sekolah, atau membawa ransel tua itu. Aku tahu
itu sepertinya remeh, tapi yah, hal seperti itu yang membedakan seseorang. Maksudku, kau tahu kalau tidak
ada gadis di Lansing yang mau terlihat memakai kaos kaki selutut, sedingin apapun udaranya, dan
membawa ransel juga kelihatan kekanak-kanakan dan agak kampungan.”
“Sepertinya begitu,” ujar Millicent.
“Tentang besok,” lanjut Louise. “Beverly Mitchell terpilih menjadi Kakakmu. Aku mau
memperingatkanmu kalau dia adalah yang paling keras, tapi kalau kau berhasil melewatinya, itu akan jadi
tambahan nilai untukmu.”
“Trims, Lou,” Millicent menjawab penuh syukur, sambil berpikir, hal ini mulai terlihat serius.
Penyiksaan perlahan ini tampaknya lebih buruk dari tes kesetiaan. Apa pula yang harus dibuktikan? Bahwa
aku bisa menjalankan perintah tanpa mundur? Atau itu hanya untuk membuat mereka merasa senang
melihat kami berlarian kesana kemari dengan isyarat dan perintah mereka?
“Sebenarnya yang harus kau lakukan hanyalah,” ujar Louise sambil menyendok sisa sundae-nya,
“jadi penurut dan benar-benar patuh ketika kau bersama Bev dan lakukan apapun yang ia suruh. Jangan
tertawa atau membantah atau mencoba bercanda, dia hanya akan membuatmu semakin susah, dan
percayalah, dia sungguh pintar kalau soal itu. Tibalah di rumahnya jam tujuh tiga puluh.”
Dan dia tiba. Ia membunyikan bel dan duduk di tangga sambil menunggu Bev. Setelah beberapa
menit pintu depan terbuka dan Bev berdiri di sana, wajahnya serius.
“Berdiri, kau bajing,” perintah Bev
Ada sesuatu di nadanya yang mengganggu Millicent. Hampir terasa seperti kebencian. Dan ada
anonimitas yang tidak menyenangkan dari label “bajing”, meski memang itu yang selalu mereka gunakan
untuk memanggil gadis yang dilantik. Label itu merendahkan, seperti diri ditempeli dengan angka. Itu
adalah sebuah penyangkalan terhadap individualitas.

Source text - Indonesian Penelitian khusus mengenai keadaan tebing di daerah Pantai Selatan Kabupaten Gunung Kidul dilakukan Jatmikotomo dkk. (2015) dengan metode Modified Rockfall Hazard Rating System yang dikembangkan oleh Budetta (2004). Metode ini adalah metode semi kuantitatif dengan beberapa paramater, yaitu slope mass rating (SMR), ukuran blok, volume bongkah, jumlah jiwa yang terpapar dan curah hujan (Jatmikotomo dkk., 2015). Dari hasil perhitungan tingkat resiko menggunakan metode ini pada beberapa pantai di daerah Gunung Kidul dapat disimpulkan bahwa Pantai Indrayanti memiliki tingkat resiko tertinggi dibandingkan daerah yang lain. Pantai Sadranan, tempat terjadinya jatuhan batuan pada Juni 2015, menduduki peringkat ke-lima dari tujuh pantai yang diteliti. Hal ini disebabkan peristiwa jatuhan batuan yang telah terjadi menjadikan resiko yang ada pada pantai tersebut berkurang (Jatmikotomo, 2015). Penelitian ini menjadi dasar penentuan lokasi yang akan diteliti lebih lanjut dalam hal kekuatan batuan, kriteria keruntuhan massa batuan dan analisis stabilitas secara numeris.
Translation - English A special research on the cliff condition of the South Coast area in Gunung Kidul Regency was conducted by Jatmikotomo et al. (2015) with the method of Modified Rockfall Hazard Rating System which was developed by Budetta (2004). This method was a semi-quantitative method with several parameters, which are the Slope Mass Rating (SMR), block size, volume of the chunk, number of exposed lives, and the rainfall (Jatmikotomo et al., 2015). From the result of risk level calculation with this method on several beaches in Gunung Kidul area, it could be concluded that Indrayanti Beach has highest risk level compared with other areas. The Sadranan Beach, in which the rockfall event occurred in June 2015, was ranked fifth from the seven beaches that were studied. This was because the rockfall event that had occurred reduced the risk on the beach (Jatmikotomo, 2015). This research became the basis in determining the location that would be studied further in terms of rock strength, rock mass failure criteria, and numerical stability analysis.
