The type-1 cytokine (interleukin 12, interleukin 23, interferon γ, interleukin 17) signalling pathway is triggered during infection by activation of phagocyte-expressed pattern-recognition receptors that recognise specific pathogen-associated molecular patterns. Triggering of this pathway results, among other things, in activation of microbicidal mechanisms in phagocytic cells. Individuals with a deficiency in one of the proteins in the pathway are unusually susceptible to otherwise poorly pathogenic, mostly environmental, mycobacteria and salmonellae. Individuals with deficiencies in other innate immune signalling proteins show unusual susceptibility to pathogens other than mycobacteria or salmonellae. We discuss recent insights into key molecules involved in type-1 cytokine signalling pathways and provide an update on the molecular genetic defects underlying mendelian susceptibility to mycobacterial disease. We also discuss deficiencies in the innate immune signalling proteins that lead to susceptibility to other pathogens. Knowledge of innate immune signalling has allowed the identification of defects in such patients. However, some patients have enhanced susceptibility to pathogens even though no mutations have been found in the candidate genes identified thus far. Whereas a few patients might have autoantibodies against type-1 cytokines, others might harbour mutations in new genes and pathways that still need to be identified.

1.1 Defined Terms. Capitalized terms used herein shall have the meanings ascribed to them below:

I agree that it would be impossible or inadequate to measure and calculate the Company's damages from any breach of the covenants set forth in this Agreement. Accordingly, I agree that if I breach any covenant, the Company will have available, in addition to any other right or remedy available, the right to obtain an injunction from a court of competent jurisdiction restraining such breach or threatened breach and to specific performance of any such provision of this Agreement. I further agree that no bond or other security shall be required in obtaining such equitable relief and I hereby consent to the issuance of such injunction and to the ordering of specific performance.
GENERAL PROVISIONS
Entire Agreement: This Agreement sets forth the entire agreement and understanding between the Company and me relating to the subject matter herein and merges all prior discussions between us. No modification of or amendment to this agreement, nor any waiver of any rights under this agreement, will be effective unless in writing signed by the party to be charged. Any subsequent change or changes in my duties, salary or compensation will not affect the validity or scope of this Agreement.
Severability: If one or more of the provisions in this Agreement are deemed void by law, then the remaining provisions will continue in full force and effect.
Successors and Assigns: This Agreement will be binding upon my heirs, executors, administrators and other legal representatives and will be for the benefit of the Company, its successors, and its assigns.

BRUSSELS - With a week’s hindsight, and minus Europe’s initial reflexes of flattery and awe, here are a few quick takes on the mixed bag of praise, resistance and misinterpretation left behind after Barack Obama’s visit from the Atlantic to the gates of the Orient.
Big Ticket Items (G-20, Disarmament, Afghanistan): Concerning the world economic crisis summit, where no country had the silliness or nerve to pretend it holds irrefutable wisdom, a player from a participating European country, a man of the left, described the American president as able, conciliatory, and a leader who could lift discussion out of a swamp of detail to concentrate on essential strategic considerations.
That was a nice thought. Because when it came to things like Mr. Obama’s strategic disarmament plan “to free the world from the menace of a nuclear nightmare” (and skirt for now what should be done about Iran and North Korea), the denigrators and opportunists within Europe were active before the week was out.
France, which would lose a grand chunk of its claim to top-table status in a world discussing a future without nukes, said in a leaked internal memo that Mr. Obama’s speech went over existing ground, sought to hide American delays, and was essentially aimed at “improving America’s image.”
Then there was Frank-Walter Steinmeier, the German foreign minister and Social Democrat candidate for chancellor. For him, the speech served to frame a quick boost for his September election chances against Angela Merkel. At the weekend, he rode Obama’s coattails more than the president could have wished by calling for the removal of American nukes from Germany.

Perché quando si giunse ad elementi come il piano di disarmamento strategico di Mr. Obama "per liberare il mondo dalla minaccia di un incubo nucleare" (e glissare per ora cosa dovrebbe essere fatto sull'Iran e Corea del Nord), i denigratori ed opportunisti all'interno dell'Europa furono attivi prima della fine della settimana.
La Francia, che perderebbe una larga porzione delle rivendicazioni sulla propria leadership in un mondo in trattativa per un futuro senza testate nucleari, ritenne, in una memoria interna trapelata, che il discorso di Mr. Obama andava oltre i motivi trattati, e cercava di celare i ritardi dell'America, ed era essenzialmente volta a "migliorarne l'immagine."
Quindi ci fu Frank-Walter Steinmeier, il ministro degli esteri Tedesco candidato socialdemocratico per la posizione di cancelliere.
