Source text - Indonesian Gas Rumah Kaca (GRK) termasuk antara lain karbon dioksida, metana, dan hydrofluorocarbon (HFCs) dihasilkan oleh aktivitas manusia. Konsentrasi kimia yang berlebihan pada lapisan biosfer memicu pemanasan global dan perubahan iklim. Emisi GRK diukur dari tingkat konsentrasi CO2 atau setara dengan gas CO2. Usaha untuk mengurangi emisi rumah kaca telah disetujui secara internasional melalui Protokol Kyoto di mana Indonesia mengesahkannya melalui Undang-Undang Indonesia No. 17 Tahun 2004 mengenai Pengesahan Protokol Kyoto.
Konsumsi zat-zat yang menghabiskan ozon (ODS) menurun secara signifikan menurut Protokol Montreal. Pemerintah Indonesia meratifikasi Protokol Montreal dan telah melarang pemasukan lima jenis zat yang menghabiskan ozon yaitu CFCs, Halon, CTCs, dan Metil Bromida untuk penggunaan di luar karantina dan pra-pengapalan. Berbagai usaha juga telah dilakukan untuk mencegah emisi zat-zat yang menghabiskan ozon—khususnya CFCs—ke dalam atmosfer. Usaha meningkatkan kesadaran publik dalam melindungi ozon turut berkontribusi dalam keberhasilan prakarsa ini.
Pada tahun 2007, pemakaian CFCs di Indonesia telah menurun sampai pada tingkat minimum (lihat gambar 7.3). Tahap demi tahap, dilakukan pergantian bahan yang berpotensi tinggi menipiskan ozon seperti CFCs dan bahan ODS lainnya seperti Halon, CTCs, TCA dengan pemakaian sementara pengganti bahan yang potensi menipiskan ozonnya lebih kecil, seperti campuran dan/atau bahan-bahan hydrochlorofluorocarbon (HCFC) yang tidak menipiskan ozon. Walaupun impor dan pemakaian bahan penipis ozon telah dibatasi secara signifikan, Indonesia juga menghadapi tantangan untuk memerangi impor ilegal bahan penipis ozon.
Translation - English Green House Gases (GHG) including, among others, carbon dioxide, methane and hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs) are produced by human activities. Excessive concentrations of these chemicals in the biosphere are triggering global warming and climate change. Green house gas emissions are measured in terms of CO2 or CO2 gas equivalent concentration levels. Efforts to reduce green house gas emissions have been agreed internationally through the Kyoto Protocol which Indonesia ratified through Indonesian Law No. 17/2004 on the Ratification of the Kyoto Protocol.
The consumption of ozone depleting substances (ODS) has been significantly reduced in accordance with the Montreal Protocol. The Indonesian government ratified the Montreal Protocol and has banned import of five ODS types that are CFCs, Halon, CTCs, TCA and Methyl Bromide for non-quarantine and pre-shipment (QPS). Efforts have also been undertaken to prevent the emission of ODS—particularly CFCs—into the atmosphere. Efforts to raise the awareness of the public on the issue of protecting the ozone have contributed to the success of this initiative.
By 2007 the consumption of CFCs in Indonesia had been reduced to a minimal level (see Figure 7.3). There has been a gradual replacement of ODS that have a high ozone depleting potential such as CFCs and other ODS types including Halon, CTCs, TCA with the temporary use of substitutes with a smaller ozone depleting potential, such as hydrochlorofluorocarbon (HCFC) compounds and/or substances that are non-ozone depleting. Although the import and use of ODS has been significantly restricted, Indonesia is also facing challenges to combat illegal importation of ODS.

Source text - English Palm oil is known for its multiple uses in food, healthcare products, cosmetics and biofuels. Currently, it is mostly used for food, by both end users and food industries. Its principal domestic use is as cooking oil. It is also used in solidified spreads and as an ingredient in various processed foods.
The role of palm oil in food security is becoming more important as it is now the world’s most widely consumed vegetable oil, comprising 35% of vegetable oil consumed in 2013. As palm oil is the cheapest of all vegetable oils, it is an important part of the diet in most developing countries, including Indonesia, China and India.
Besides being the cheapest, palm oil is also the most efficient vegetable oil in terms of land area used. Efficiency in land utilisation is crucial, as land availability becomes scarcer globally, with competition for it intensifying from a growing population and increasing per capita consumption.

Minyak sawit menjadi bagian penting bagi konsumsi pangan di kebanyakan negara berkembang, termasuk Indonesia, Tiongkok, dan India, karena merupakan minyak termurah di antara minyak nabati lainnya.
Selain termurah, minyak sawit juga merupakan minyak nabati paling efisien dalam hal luas lahan yang digunakan. Efisiensi dalam pemanfaatan lahan menjadi semakin penting, karena secara global lahan menjadi semakin langka sementara persaingan untuk penggunaannya semakin tinggi sebagai akibat dari pertumbuhan penduduk dan peningkatan konsumsi per kapita.
