Source text - English Leisure Cycling for families in the valley ‘Valle Umbra’
During this tour you will discover the Umbrian valley, Valle Umbra, in all it aspects. Throughout history this green, fertile valley has been an attractive place to settle and it is here that we find the most best-known towns of Umbria like Perugia, Assisi, Spello, Foligno, and
Bevagna. What better way to discover these towns than a relaxed cycling holiday !
Not only is the ‘valle Umbra’ historically interesting, but in the surrounding hills there are no less than four listed areas of D.o.c. (denominazione di origine controllata) or D.o.c.g. (denominazione di origine controllata e garantita: Torgiano, Assisi, Montefalco and the Monti Martani. This tour is a good opportunity to taste some of these excellent wines and enjoy the delicious Umbrian cookery.
Period: Saturday, Sunday, Tuesday, Wednesday all the year round. Other days on request, because of closing days of restaurants/ wine bars / winery (best season from April till October; the months July and August can be hot)
Number of participants: Minimum 2 persons (single bookings on request).
Level: level 1 /2 (easy; also suitable for ebike) Mostly cycling through the valley. There are only some short climbs entering a town. The daily distances are between 30 km

Day 1 arrival in Assisi
Assisi is a medieval town built on a hilltop. It is a place where history, traditions and art combine in harmony guarantying a perfect stay. There is a lot to see like the Basilica of St. Francis and Basilica of St. Clair, but it is also inviting to sit on a terrace of the main square enjoying a glass of wine !

Day 2 cycling to Torgiano
After breakfast your first ride of this holiday. You descend into the valley ‘Valle Umbra’. Just before reaching Torgiano there is a short climb to Brufa a small typical Umbrian town. You descend along the ‘Strada dell’Arte’ (Art Route) to Torgiano. In the afternoon you will be expected for a wine-tasting in the Lungarotti ‘Osteria’ : you will taste three reserve wines.
Torgiano was once a fortified town and the Baglioni tower remains as a silent witness to its history. The town is situated in a slightly hilly landscape at the confluence of the rivers Tiber and Chiascio. In the early Middle Ages the Benedictines planted olive groves and vineyards in these fertile hills, sowing for what is now a listed d.o.c.g. area where the famous Torgiano Rosso Riserva is made. When you have time you may well wish to visit the wine museum. It is housed in the ‘palazzo Grazioni-Baglioni’. Here the visitor is provided with an insight into the various techniques associated with the viticulture and wine-making. The museum has a rich art collection from Etruscan till modern times.
In the evening you are expected in a restaurant for a very special dinner: you will taste some typical Umbrian dishes (appetizers, ‘primi’ (pasta –risotto), ‘secondo’ (main course), vegetables and a coffee with a grappa or another after-dinner spirit). For the lover of black truffle you can also enjoy some dishes prepared with these "Black diamonds of the Kitchen."
Day 3 Cycling to Bevagna
Cycling through the valley you will reach the organic winery Di Filippo. They will explain you everything about the wine-making process and afterwards you will taste some of their very special wines (not possible on Sundays).
Back in the saddle, you continue to Bevagna, a town of Roman origins situated in the famous wine area of the Sagrantino d.o.c.g. and the Rosso di Montefalco d.o.c. Overnight stay in a historic 18th Century villa.
Day 4 Cycling to Spello passing Foligno
The next morning you will still have still some time to visit Bevagna followed by a cycling tour through the colourful valley. There is the option to visit the medieval hill town Montefalco also known as the ‘balcony of Umbria’, because of the fantastic panorama. Worth to visit is the Franciscan church, now a museum with magnificent 15th and 16th century frescoes by artists such as Benozzo Gozzoli and Perugino. Montefalco is well-known for its excellent wines, Rosso di Montefalco d.o.c. and Sagrantino d.o.c.g , produced on the sunny slopes around the town ( the route becomes 3 kms longer and there is some uphill cycling before reaching the town) You pass through Foligno, where you could visit the cathedral and archaeological museum in the Trinci palace or just linger through the shopping streets with its many boutiques.
After your visit you will continue cycling to Spello. Your accommodation is located in centre of this charming medieval town.
Day 5 Departure after breakfast

Ikke bare er ”Valle Umbra” historisk interessant, men i de omgivende åsene er det ikke mindre enn fire områder som er listet som D.O.C. (denominazione di origine controllata e garantita) som betyr at dette området er kontrollert og er av ypperste kvalitet når det kommer til produseringen av mat og vin. Daglig program
Dag 1 Ankomst i Assisi
Assisi er en middelaldersk by som ligger på en bakketopp. Her kombineres historie, tradisjoner og kunst i harmoni og vil garantert gi deg et perfekt opphold. Det er mye å se i Assisi, slik som Basilica di San Francesco (Den hellige Frans' basilica) og Basilica di Santa Chiara (“Den hellige Klaras basilica), men det er også innbydende å sitte på en terrasse i sentrum av byen med et glass vin! På kvelden vil du ha en velkomstmiddag ved en lokal restaurant.
Dag 2 Sykling til Torgiano
Etter frokost vil du gjøre din første sykkeltur på denne ferien. Før du når Torgiano må du beseire en liten oppoverbakke til Brufa, som er en typisk Umbrisk landsby. Deretter fortsetter du langs ”Strada dell´Arte” (Kunstveien) mot Torgiano. På ettermiddagen vil du ha en vinsmaking ved ”Lungarotti Osteria” i Torgiano, hvor du vil kunne smake på tre av deres Riserva vin.
Torgiano var en gang en befestet by og Baglioni-tårnet står som et stille minne av byens historie. Byen befinner seg på et småkupert landskap ved samløpet av to elver; Tiber og Chiascio. I tidlig middelalder, Benediktinere dyrket olivenlunder og vingårder i disse fruktbare åsene som har bidratt til at dette stedet nå er et d.o.c.g. område hvor den kjente vinen Torgiano Rosso Riserva blir produsert. Hvis du har tid vil du kanskje besøke vinmuseet i Torgiano som befinner seg i ”Palayyo Grazioni-Baglioni”. Her får besøkerne et blikk i ulike teknikker assosionert med vindyrking og vinlaging. Mueeset har også en stor kunstsamling fra den etrustiske tiden til i dag.
På kvelden kan du vente deg en veldig spesiell middag hvor du vil bli servert typiske retter fra Umbria; Forrett = ”primi” (pasta – risotto), hovedrett = ”secondo”, grønnsaker og kaffe med grappa eller en annen likør. For elskere av svart trøffel, kan en også nyte retter med ”Kjøkkenets svarte diamant”.
Dag 3 Sykling til Bevagna
Du vil sykle gjennom dalen før du når den organiske vingården Di Filippo. De kommer til å forklare hele vinlagingsprosessen og etterpå vil du kunne smake på deres veldig spesielle vin (ikke mulig på søndager). Tilbake på veien fortsetter du mot Bevagna, en liten landsby av romersk opprinnelse, beliggende i det kjente vinområdet Sagrantino d.o.c.g. og Rosso di Montefalco d.o.c. Du vil overnatte i en historisk villa fra 1700-tallet.
Dag 4 Sykling til Spello passerer Foligno
Neste morgen vil du fortsatt ha litt tid til å utforske Bevagna før turen går videre gjennom den fargerike dalen mot Foligno. Du har muligheten til å besøke middelalderbyen Montefalco, også kjent som Umrbrias balkong” ettersom du kan nyte en fantastisk utsikt herfra. Også verdt å besøke er den frankiske kirken, som nå er et museum, som er prydet med enestående freskomalerier fra 1400 og 1500 tallet av kunstnere som Benozzo Gozzoli og Perugino. Montefalco er velkjent for sin utmerkete vin, Rosso di Montefalco d.o.c. og Sagrantino d.o.c.g., som er produsert på solfylte bakker rundt byen. Når du ankommer Foligno, kan besøke en kirke og et arkeologisk museum i Trinci-palasset eller gå gjennom shoppinggatene. Etter besøket i Foligno fortsetter reisen mot Spello. Du vil tilbringe natten i sentrum av denne sjarmerende middelalderbyen.

L'Orto Degli Angeli er en historisk villa fra 1700-tallet, beliggende i sentrum av Bevagna. Dette
bolighuset har fjorten rom og leiligheter. De er alle forskjellige og har bevart det meste av sine
