Menunggu Hujan Lara Reda

Aku berjalan ke arah kelam lalu bertemu awan hitam. Aku menyapa keheningan dan bersiul penuh debu. Kelam menggaris malam. Awan hitam bermain duka. Keheningan menggali sunyi. Deru menguliti hati. Darah di ujung arteri. Menunggu instruksi tulang. Sel-sel di luar kendali. Kemudi diserang antibodi.

Aku melirik kelam. Kelam yang menghantam sel. Hening semakin diam. Imun melekat darah. Malam semakin dalam. Air mata melirih duka. Menerawang pada kemudi. Putar balik arah. Atau terus perang! Melawan arus kehidupan.

Aku kalahkan ego demi penyakitku.

Until the gloomy rain subside
I walk toward a bleak side to meet the dark, unlit sky. I embrace silence occupied with dust. The bleak streak the night. The dark, unlit sky manipulates pain. The silence digs quietly. Clamor breaks the silence. The cell in my body is beyond control, waiting for the antibody to finish the rest.

Deeply I breathe the air on the bleak side corrosively running through my vein. Silence stops digging. Immunity leeches blood. As the night sinks deeper, the tears river still. The tears seize the steering wheel: divert or hold fast, toward the drift of life.

I decided to attend the seminar which Doctor Amay suggested me, the World Lupus Day Seminar. It was held in May 26th 2006. I forced myself to come for the sake of my health, to search for weakness points my eternal enemy would have. There are still roads not taken, Sinta. They are waiting for you discover, whispered the silence to my ear.

The lupus seminar was organized by Pharmacy students of Institut Teknologi Bandung at West Hall of the campus. The sky was shining brightly as I moved my feet pass a main door intercepted by two reception desks. My mind kept telling my feet to walk to the main hall. I saw physicians gluing themselves behind each other’s reception desk, creating one solid line. There are rheumatologist, optometrist, dermatologist, and hematologist. It was clear that the doctors were invited as speakers in the seminar. Before the seminar began, the doctors held free-charged consultations for attenders which by no surprise were mostly lupus patients.

I took this opportunity to my advantage. It was one of rare occasions to consult with professional doctors without getting charged a fortune. Including the ticket, the seminar only cost five thousands rupiah. Just consider the reception desks as free health consultation with certified doctors. Each stand provided enough space for patient to consult his/her medical worries. My eyes were caught in a view of reception desk which its doctor was consultant of joint and arthritis. I learned the doctor sitting behind the desk was a rheumatologist as I studied the term printed below his name.
