Bio
I often asked myself the question Who am I?, sometimes giving a fast answer to it, for fear not to lose my self into some kind of stereotypes, sometimes trying to find the real me, the things that define me.

One of them is a passion for language. Language, in general, is fascinating. Not only it makes you express yourself in a variety of ways, sometimes discovering the real you, sometimes covering in the right way the not-so-great-to-hear truths that you have to say, but it also helps you develop into a more conscientious person, willing to do your work well and thoroughly.

Nordic languages, as a fact, are a mix between the mysteries of the primordial Germanic language with the fascinating culture and civilization standing behind it. Of course, first it was the Scandinavian culture that stirred my curiosity. And I thought how you can know a country best, if not through learning its language.

So I discovered Swedish language in the most natural way.

I started the Faculty of Foreign Languages in 2010, English major and Swedish minor. In the second year of Faculty I had the chance to explore Sweden in all its beauty through a scholarship I received from the Swedish Institute and had the opportunity to learn in Nässjö for one semester, general subjects like Language, History, Religion, Biology, Chemistry and also got the chance to attend Writing classes, due to my great passion for writing poems. This has also brought me a lot of prises to writing/poem contests organised there.

After my return in Romania, I chose working in the field of translation since it combined the two key elements that described me perfectly: my love for language, as a means for humans to express themselves and the passion Swedish language became to me. The turning point in my decision was definitely my Bachelor’s Degree paper, which represented a challenge: the translation of one of August Strindberg’s works.

Experience so far

Since then, I was involved in numerous cultural events, having the chance to translate or do the subtitles for movies in film festivals (NexT Film Festival), music festivals (EuropaFest), editing and translating for magazines and cultural newspapers (Art Out Magazine), taking part in events organised by the Swedish Embassy, having the opportunity to attend Cambridge classes and obtaining my Certificate of Authorised Translator, being a member of the TedX Community, which helps translating and providing subtitles for extremely inspirational videos across the world, working and delivering translations in different domains.

Altogether, translations are my ”escape room”, my favorite hobby to return to as it always keeps me connected: not only to the reality around me, but to my reality. I somehow take each translation as a mystery code I have to solve so I can share the knowledge to others by deciphering the language. It is both tedious and enthusing, however it always keeps me interested.
