Source text - Slovak Opiates are made from opium, which comes from the poppy plant. They can have important medical benefits—they're powerful painkillers, they are sometimes prescribed to control severe diarrhea, and they can also be found in cough medicine. Maybe you've heard of drugs called Vicodin, morphine or codeine. These are examples of opiates. When used properly for medical purposes, they can be very helpful. Opiates used without a doctor's prescription or in ways other than how they are prescribed, can be dangerous and addictive.
Opiates are controlled drugs under the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971. It is illegal to supply or possess them without a prescription, or to produce, import or export them without legal authority. It is also an offence to allow premises to be used for producing or supplying these drugs. Only specially licensed doctors can prescribe heroin or methadone for the treatment of opiate addiction.
Heroin, morphine, opium and pethidine appear in class A of the Misuse of Drugs Act and the penalties for supplying these drugs illegally can be very severe.
Opiates are drugs made from the opium poppy. Opium is the dried milk of the poppy and contains morphine and codeine, both effective painkillers used extensively in the treatment of illness.
Morphine can easily be converted into heroin which is a white powder that is twice as strong as morphine. Heroin can be swallowed or dissolved in water and injected using a hypodermic syringe. The sharing of needles between users is a serious problem as it can lead to the spread of, amongst other diseases, HIV and Hepatitis. Heroin can also be smoked or sniffed like cocaine. Users can quickly become addicted and embark on a life of crime to fuel their addiction.

Môžu mať dôležité zdravotné účinky – sú účinné pri tlmení bolesti, občas sa predpisujú na kontrolu závažnej hnačky a taktiež sa môžu nachádzať v syrupoch na kašeľ. Možno ste počuli o liekoch zvaných Vicodin, morfín alebo kodeín. Sú to príklady opiátov. Pri správnom použývaný na liečbu zdravotných problémov, môžu byť veľmi osožné. Opiáty požívané bez predpisu lekára alebo inak ako bolo predpísané, môžu byť nebezpečné a návykové.
Opiáty sú liečivá kontrolované podľa Zákona o nesprávnom používaní liečiv z roku 1971. Je nelegálne ich zásobovať alebo drzať bez lekárskeho predpisu alebo ich vyrábať, vyvážať alebo dovážať bez legálnej právomoci. Taktiež, prenechanie pozemku na výrobu alebo zásobovanie takýchto liečiv je priestupok. Iba špeciálne opravnení lekari môžu predpísat heroín alebo metadon na liečbu závyslosti od opiátov.
Heroín, morfín, ópium a petidín sú v Zákone o nesprávnom používaní liečiv zaradené do triedy A a pokuty za zásobovanie týchto liečiv môžu byť veľmi vysoké.
Opiáty sú liečivá vyrobené z makového ópia. Ópium je vysušené mlieko z maku a obsahuje morfín a kodeín, obe účinné liečivá na tlmenie bolesti, rozsiahlo použivané pri liečbe ochorení.
Morfín môže byť jednoducho zmenený na heroín, čo je biely prášok, dvakrát silnejší ako morfín. Heroín sa môže prehltnúť alebo rozpustiť vo vode a vztreknúť do žily hypodermickou striekačkou. Zdielanie ihiel medzi užívateľmi je závažným problémom, keďže môže dôjt k šíreniu, okrem iných chorôb, HIV a Hepatitídy. Heroín sa môže taktiež fajčiť alebo šľukať ako koaín. Užívatelia sa môžu rýchlo stať závyslými a zahájiť životnú cestu zločinu, aby ukojili svoju závyslosť.

Born in former Czechoslovakia, I grew up using both languages simultaneously. with mu being a teacher of Slovak Language, developing a strong knack for it's grammar and passion for literature didn't come as a surprise.
I decided to follow in her footsteps, graduating with Master's Degree in Education in 2007. Shortly after I relocated to the UK, where I lived for 13 years, working first in education and later getting myself into legal translation and interpreting.
I now live in Washington, DC, where I continue working as a translator and transcriber or legal audio/video recordings.
When I am not at my computer desk, I am teaching yoga or spending time with my family and friends.
