Source text - English The DNS specifications attempt to be as general as possible in the rules for constructing domain names. The idea is that the name of any existing object can be expressed as a domain name with minimal changes. However, when assigning a domain name for an object, the prudent user will select a name which satisfies both the rules of the domain system and any existing rules for the object, whether these rules are published or implied by existing programs.
For example, when naming a mail domain, the user should satisfy both the rules of this memo and those in RFC-822. When creating a new host name, the old rules for HOSTS.TXT should be followed. This avoids problems when old software is converted to use domain names.
The following syntax will result in fewer problems with many
applications that use domain names (e.g., mail, TELNET). Note that while upper and lower case letters are allowed in domain names, no significance is attached to the case. That is, two names with
the same spelling but different case are to be treated as if identical.

Source text - English Care needs to be taken when displaying messages on a terminal or terminal emulator. Powerful terminals may act on escape sequences and other combinations of ASCII control characters with a variety of consequences. They can remap the keyboard or permit other modifications to the terminal which could lead to denial of service or even damaged data. They can trigger (sometimes programmable) answerback messages which can allow a message to cause commands to be issued on the recipient's behalf. They can also effect the operation of terminal attached devices such as printers. Message viewers may wish to strip potentially dangerous terminal escape sequences from the message prior to display. However, other escape sequences appear in messages for useful purposes (cf. [RFC2045, RFC2046, RFC2047, RFC2048, RFC2049, ISO2022]) and therefore should not be stripped indiscriminately.
Transmission of non-text objects in messages raises additional
security issues. These issues are discussed in [RFC2045, RFC2046, RFC2047, RFC2048, RFC2049].

Середовища передачі даних можуть бути загального користування або виділеними для конкретного користувача.
Лінія передачі даних - засоби, які використовуються в інформаційних мережах для поширення сигналів в потрібному напрямку. Прикладами ліній передачі даних є коаксіальний кабель, вита пара, оптоволоконний кабель.
Характеристиками ліній передачі даних є залежності затухання сигналу від частоти й відстані. Затухання прийнято оцінювати в децибелах, 1дБ=10lg(P1/P2), де Р1 і Р2 - потужності сигналу на вході і виході лінії відповідно.
