Source text - English Introduction THE Constituent Assembly, brought into being by the will of the Indian people and, in the last scene of the last act, with the help of the British, drafted a constitution for India in the years from December 1946 to December 1949. In the Assembly Indians were for the first time in a century and a half responsible for their own governance. They were at last free to shape their own destiny, to pursue their long-proclaimed aims and aspirations, and to create the national institutions that would facilitate the fulfilment of these aims. These tasks the members approached with remarkable idealism and a strength of purpose born of the struggle for independence. A constitution, Assembly members realized, could not by itself make a new India, but they intended it to light the way. The Constitution was to foster the achievement of many goals. Transcendent among them was that of social revolution. Through this revolution would be fulfilled the basic needs of the common man, and, it was hoped, this revolution would bring about fundamentalchanges in the structure of Indian society—a society with a long and glorious cultural tradition, but greatly in need, Assembly members believed, of a powerful infusion of energy and rationalism. The theme of social revolution runs throughout the proceedings and documents of the Assembly. It provided the basis for the decisions to adopt parliamentary government and direct elections, the Fundamental Rights and the Directive Principles of State Policy, and even many aspects of the Executive, Legislative, and Judicial provisions of the Constitution.	Translation - Hindi परिचय संविधान सभा, जो भारतिय नागरिकों कि इच्छा से अस्तित्व में आई, अपने अंतिम दृश्य के अंतिम कार्य में, ने ब्रिटिशों कि सहायता से दिसंबर १९४६ से दिसंबर १९४९ दौरान भारत के संविधान के लिए एक मसौदे कि रचना की। यह १५० वर्शों में पहला अवसर था जब विधानसभा में भारतीय अपने शासन के लिए स्व्यं उत्तर्दायि बने। अत: वे अपनी नियति को आकार देने, अपने लंबे समय से घोषित लक्ष्य और आकांक्षाओं कि पूर्ति के लिए सुविधा प्रदान करने वाले राष्ट्रीय संस्थानों कि स्थपना करने के लिए स्वतन्त्र थे। इन कार्यों में सदस्यों ने आजादी के लिए संघर्ष से जन्म उल्लेखनीय आदर्शवाद अन्द ध्रिड निश्चय का परिचय दिया। विधानसभा के सदस्यों को एहसास हुआ के मात्र संविधान स्व्यं एक नए भारत कि रचना नहीं कर सकता, पर इसि से अपने भविश्य के मार्ग को रोशन कर एक नई दिशा देने का संक्ल्प रखते हैं। संविधान् का उद्दॆश् कई लक्ष्यों की उप्लब्धि को बढावा देना था। उनमें सामाजिक् क्रांति का ल्क्ष्य उत्क्रुश्ट् था। विधानसभा सदस्यों को यह विश्वास् था की इसी सामाजिक क्रांति के माध्यम् से आम की बुनियादी जरूरतों को पुरा किया जा सकता है और् आशान्वित् थे की यह क्रांति देश के सामाजिक् ढाँचे में मौलिक बद्लाव् लाएगा और् इसि के साथ् भारतिय समाज, जिसकी एक लंबे और गौरवशाली सांस्कृतिक परंपरा रही है- को ज़रुरत् थी एक प्रेरणा की जो समाज को एक नई ऊर्जा और तर्कसंगतता की ओर् उत्तेजित करे। सामाजिक क्रांति का विषय विधान सभा के पूरे कार्यवाही और द्स्तावेज़ में चलता रहा है। यही दस्तावेज़ संसदीय सरकार और प्रत्यक्ष चुनाव अपनाने, मौलिक अधिकार और राजनिति के निर्देशक सिद्धांत और कार्यकारी प्रणाली, विधान और न्यायिक संविधान के प्रावधान के कई पह्लुओं पर निर्णय लेने को अधार प्रदान किया।
