During that time, he successfully carried out over 100 cases of failure analyses and over 20 cases of material selection projects for new manufacturing process. He thoroughly studied corrosion conditions in different manufacturing processes and properly figured out potential damage mechanism. Then, he outstandingly performed tasks that preemptively eliminate causes before problems occur or define the reasons of existing defects. He also made huge contributions to reduction in variable cost through corrosion control.
His knowledge and technology played a significant role in helping these two companies make notable achievements in the competitive, volatile global petrochemical market by taking advantage of their high level of procedural management competence. His accomplishments that strengthened procedural safety in refinery and petrochemical industries greatly helped not only his companies but also the overall development of the industry.
His technology caught attention from not only industry but also academia. He has steadily been publishing a number of excellent theses on prestigious journals in the field. In particular, a number of his papers on the effects of cement alkalinity on the rebar corrosion in concrete and the concrete alkalinity measurement method have been cited by dozens of researchers around the world for their own researches due to Dr. Nam’s unique and pioneering research findings on the characteristics of iron corrosion. In addition, he contributed to the accumulation and distribution of knowledge and technology in the field by presenting cases on facility damage analysis and countermeasures in oil refinery and petrochemical industries at various conferences and symposiums in Korea and elsewhere.

치매노인간호
나는 일찍이 노인의 일상생활기능 장애의 주요 원인 중 하나가 치매라는 사실을 인식하고 치매노인에 대한 이해와 치매간호의 이해를 높이고, 치매노인 간호를 향상시키기 위한 다양한 연구를 수행하였다. 나는 노인성 치매가 노인의 일상생활기능에 어떻게 영향을 미치는지를 연구하고 건강지향적 간호 모델을 구축하였다. 또한 치매고위험 집단을 구별하는 연구 등을 통해 치매를 미리 예방할 수 있는 방안을 모색했으며, 임상에서 간호사들이 수행할 효과적이고 다양한 치매 간호 중재 방법을 개발해왔다. 최근에는 치매를 예방하는 간호방법 개선을 위해 다양한 인지 기능 향상 프로그램을 시도하고 탐구하였다. 통합적 인지 훈련 프로그램이 고령 노인들의 경증인지장애 (mild cognitive impairment)가 더 악화되지 않도록 할 뿐 아니라 인지 능력을 향상시킨다는 연구 결과를 발표해 학계와 보건 분야에서 많은 주목을 받았다. 이 연구들을 통해 노인성 치매에 대한 간호학의 지식을 향상시켰으며, 치매 노인 간호를 위한 지식과 기술을 크게 향상시켰다는 평가를 받았다.

Caring for seniors with dementia
From early on, I recognized one of the main causes of the impairment of seniors’ daily living activity is dementia and conducted various researches to raise awareness and understanding of nursing for seniors with dementia and improve nursing for seniors with dementia. I studied how senior dementia affects their daily living activity and formulated health-oriented nursing model. I have tried to find ways to prevent dementia in advance by studying how to distinguish high dementia risk groups and developed various effective nursing intervention methods to be carried out by nurses in a clinical setting. Recently, I experimented with and studied diverse cognitive function improvement programs to improve nursing techniques that can prevent dementia.
I published research findings that comprehensive cognitive training programs can help prevent mild cognitive impairment from being aggravated and improve their perception ability, and this caught a lot of attention from academia and healthcare sector. This research helped improve knowledge in nursing studies in relation to senile dementia and got an evaluation that it greatly improved knowledge and technique for attending seniors with dementia.
