서부경남 산업 직군 사망 사고 가운데 절반 정도는
건설현장에서 일어난 것으로 나타났습니다.

사천 늑도에
반가운 손님이 찾아왔습니다.
바로 어르신들의 청결관리를 위해 마련된
이동 목욕차입니다.
이곳 늑도에서 가장 가까운 목욕탕은
차로 30분 거리.
일반 사람들에게는
크게 문제될 거리가 아니지만
거동이 어려운 어르신들에게는
그야말로 천릿길입니다.
불편한 몸으로 직접 목욕을 하는 것도
쉽지 않습니다.
이런 문제를 해결하기 위해
KAI와 사천시
그리고 사천시자원봉사단체 협의회가
두 팔을 걷어붙였습니다.
이동 목욕차를 이용한
봉사활동에 나선 겁니다.

"사천지역의 도서지역에 있는 어르신들이, 거동이 불편하신 분들이 쾌적하게 목욕봉사를 통해가지고 즐거운 생활이 됐으면 참 좋겠다 그런 생각을 가지고 있습니다."

거동이 불편한 마을 어르신들을 모시고 와
옷가지 정리를 시작으로
직접 머리를 감겨주고
몸을 씻겨주며
마음을 나누고 있습니다.
사천시와 자원봉사협의회는
이번 활동을 시작으로
매주 3회씩
사천 외곽지역의 마을을 순회하며
거동이 불편한 어르신과 독거노인을 대상으로
이동 목욕봉사를 펼칠 계획입니다.

앞서 KAI는 지난해 10월 사천시의
이동 목욕 차량이 노후화 됐다는 이야기를 듣고
1억원을 들여 최신식 목욕차량을 시에 기증했습니다.
KAI가 기증한 이동 목욕차는
기존의 차량과 달리
물의 온도나 욕조의 높낮이 조절이 가능해져
봉사가 더 수월해졌습니다.

"물을 35도로 맞췄으면 딱 그대로만 목욕을 할 수 있었는데 지금은 혼합식으로 바뀌어가지고 물을 실시간으로 목욕탕처럼 40도로 했다가 20도로 했다가 바로 바꿀 수 있어가지고 상당히 도움이 되고 있습니다."

Gyeongnam Scientific Farming Manpower Training Foundation, run by Gyeongnam Province, has confirmed its plans to introduce new innovations from overseas into its curriculum for this year.

The foundation held a regular meeting of its board of directors at the Gyeongnam Western Region Provincial Building. The board confirmed its plan to train 550 farms in the province with new farming innovations from overseas.
This year’s curriculum will include a program visiting the Netherlands for training in the field of apples, strawberries, and greenhouses. It will also invite instructors from New Zealand and Spain and various domestic experts to talk about the latest farming techniques.
Gyeongnam Scientific Farming Manpower Training Foundation was established in 2003 and is responsible for providing training and support to introduce new farming techniques to local farms.

Women’s Job Center in Jinju was responsible for helping 911 housewives reenter the job market last year.

The center claimed that last year’s number it reintroduced to the job market was 12% higher than the 815 in 2015 thanks to its new expert training program, job training, and internship program.
Jinju City plans to continue to support women who’ve had their careers interrupted reenter the job market by matching jobs with businesses and providing training in four fields including computers, tax and accounting, child care and others.

Sacheon Airport and Tongyeong City have agreed to work together to promote the airport and the region’s tourism industry.

Sacheon branch of Korea Airports Corporation signed an MOU with Tongyeong to cooperate with each other in promoting the region’s airport and cultural industry including its festivals.
Tongyeong will develop various tour programs that allow tourists from other regions to easily access the city through Sacheon Airport.
It will also provide various transportation means and support programs for visitors using the airport.

Sancheong-gun is planning to match each of its departments and teams with regional businesses to provide a basis for seamless cooperation between regional government and business.

Sancheong-gun is hoping the regional government-to -business matching program will provide a business-friendly environment by allowing businesses to easily consult their regulatory counterparts.
The 16 regional businesses taking part in the matching program are members of Sancheong’s Chamber of Commerce and Industry. These businesses have agreed to actively participate in the community in various roles to become representatives of the region’s businesses.

Hyanggyo is a traditional Confucian school. Sacheon Hyanggyo recently published “Annals of Sacheon Hyanggyo” which is an overview of 600 years of its history.

Sacheon Hyanggyo held a publication ceremony on February 18th along with an unveiling ceremony of its Heonseong Memorial to remember those who took part in the effort.
The book includes the history of Sacheon Hyanggyo, a list of all past and present directors, current operational status of the school, and explanation on the National Rite to Confucius and various memorials and signboards within the school. The annal focuses on passing down teachings from Confucius on to future generation by providing a historical overview of the hyanggyo’s Confucian activities.
The publication effort began back in January of 2015 with 70 million Won support from the city government as well as 64 million Won donated from the Sacheon area clans, Confucian scholars, and residents.

Jinju Police was selected as Gyeongnam’s top police agency in the field of crime investigation.

For the last quarter of 2016, Jinju Police was selected by the Gyeongnam Provincial Police Agency as second in crime investigation within the province and was awarded a plaque recognizing it as one of the top police in Gyeongnam.
Also, Inspectors Yang Ho Seok and Kim Hyeong Jeong of the Jinju Police were awarded a commendation for their excellent work.

Among work-related deaths in Western Gyeongnam, over half of them occur in the construction industry.

According to the Jinju Branch of the Ministry of Employment and Labor, there were nine work-related deaths in Western Gyeongnam last year of which five occurred on construction sites.
Deaths in the construction industry made up 42% of all work-related deaths in Western Gyeongnam in 2014, 50% in 2015, and 56% in 2016.
As spring approaches, it’s thawing season and risk of an accident is much higher. Jinju Branch of the Ministry of Employment and labor will crackdown on various construction sites most vulnerable from the increased freeze-thaw conditions.

All of Gyeongsang National University’s 34 students that entered in 2013 passed the 68th National Pharmacist Licensure Examination they took back in January.

GNU has produced 104 pharmacists since 2015 with its 100% pass rate for three straight years in the National Pharmacist Licensure Examination.
A total of 1996 students from 35 Schools of Pharmacy took the exam this year with 1868 passing for a pass rate of 93.6%.
Mobile Bathing Van for Senior Citizens

It isn’t easy for senior citizens living far from towns to visit a public bathing house. A volunteer group took things into their hands and started a mobile bathing service.
They take their special van outfitted for bathing services out to villages to help senior citizens get a warm bath.

A special group of visitors just visited Sacheon’s Neukdo Island.
It’s the mobile bathing van and its volunteers visiting to help the senior residents of the island with hygiene.
Younger residents have no problem getting a bath, but many bedridden senior citizens have a hard time visiting the public bathhouse. Also, it isn’t easy bathing as you get older and your mobility suffers.
A group of volunteers in Sacheon from KAI, Sacheon City and the Sacheon City Volunteer Group Committee came together to address this issue.
They brought a group of volunteers together with a special van.
“We started with the hopes of providing bathing services to senior citizens with mobility difficulties in islands and outskirts.”
The volunteers bring bedridden senior citizens from the villages to the van to wash their hair and give them a bath while also cleaning their homes.
With the Neukdo Island visit as a start, Sacheon City and the volunteer committee have decided to do rounds among far out villages three times a week to provide bathing services to bedridden senior citizens in the region.
“We are happy to have the mobile bathing van with which to provide a good bath to the old ladies and most of all they also love it.”
Last year October, KAI donated a new 100 million Won state-of-the-art bathing van to Sacheon City when it heard that the previous van used by the city was getting too old.
The new van donated by KAI provides more features including fine controls over water temperatures and height of the tubs.
“Before when we set the temperature to 35 degrees Celsius we had to keep it at that temperature but now we can change it to 40 degrees Celsius and then to 20 degrees Celsius like we are at a public bath. That’s a lot of help.”
The volunteer groups and their new bathing van are making sure our senior citizens stay warm and clean throughout this winter.
