Source text - English Human beings evolved on Earth over millions of years, from the rise of our first hominid ancestors to the present day. So did all of our food—and all of the living things that eat
our food, and are thus eaten by us by accident. Indeed, every astronaut is a spaceship—home to trillions of microscopic life- forms, all eating and drinking and reproducing. Our digestive systems count on working in a terrestrial environment, so what happens when we bring them with us into outer space?
There are a lot of factors we’ll have to take into account, big and small. What do you think, for example, happens when you drink carbonated soda in space, with no gravity in your stomach to separate the gas from the liquid? (Here’s a hint: Burps in space aren’t very dry.)
So, space gourmands, put aside that pressure cooker and put on your pressure suit. From appetizer to dessert, we’re about to find out the best menu for our out-of-this-world journeys.
